I agree with SkyDiver that you should try coming out to him first. The fact of the matter is you never know if someone is gay/bi/not straight until they tell you.

Should you walk away? Not necessarily. See how he responds first. If he is into men and interested in you specifically, then there would obviously be no reason to. If is straight or otherwise not interested, then you will have to accept that you probably won't ever be anything other than friends, but that doesn't mean you have to walk away from the friendship entirely (though depending on the strength of your feelings for him you may want to put a little space between the two of you for a short while).
