However if you want to try experimenting with how it is, why not try keeping the bit that you want and cutting the rest short?

I'd say try something that you think matches your personality. If you're edgy/serious then get an edgy haircut (or try slicking all of it back). If you think you're classy, try straightening it out.

it's your hair, work with it. take a look at some haircuts that you like on other people/characters, and see if you can get that or mix it with what you have now.
