Default Gay jokes

I think most gay jokes are kind of funny, actually I think that one of the upsides to being gay is you can tell those jokes without it being offensive. I believe that joking about things are a good way deal with people, if we can all laugh then we can get past the bad stuff. Just wondering if this a bad thought process.

As long as the jokes aren't mean spirited I rather enjoy them. There is a gay jokes thread around here somewhere.

Agreed. If it's casual and you can laugh about it, then why not? Life isn't mean to be serious a 100% of the time. Yes, we are laughing about serious issues that people go through every day (I'm sure all of us on this forum have gone through one of them at least once in our live's), but it's also nice to laugh about 'em, just to see it from a more lighter perspective.

I don't mind gay people making gay jokes... I do mind when straight people who I know to be homophobic/bigoted start making them. Only because I know they really do feel that way. :[

If there is nothing hateful in them, jokes about homosexuality (but also religion, nationality and so on) are completely acceptable. When my friend who I know to be very understanding and openly and truthfully gay-friendly makes an otherwise even offensive gay joke, I find it funny. On the other hand, there are people whose hatred you can sense on "A gay guy walks into a bar..".

It's less the joke than the mindset behind it. Swap out the word "faggot" for "gay guy" in any joke, and suddenly, it's a lot less funny.

I'm so pissed off that it's not on youtube as just the clip, but there's a sketch in the 4th episode of the first series of 'The League of Gentlemen' where this bad theatre troup called 'Legz Akimbo' do a play called 'Everybody Out!' about being gay and the whole thign is hilarious.

'Being gay is okay, but not being a dyke, because they'll steal your wife' (paraphrasing, but still)

Me and my girlfriend are both lesbians (in case you haven't figured it out I'm a girl too) and we often say "you are so gay" jokingly.

Depends what you mean by joke. If it demeans gay people, then it doesn't matter who says it.
