Hey all,

Closeted/questioning guy here. Going to Puerto Rico for two days for business. I'm not really prepared to take overt steps - hook up or go to a club - but I think it would be a good step for me to walk around a gay neighborhood, eat in a gay-friendly restaurant, sit at the bar at a gay friendly hotel, go to a gay bar, etc. I am really hoping I step up to the plate and let myself enjoy!

So my question for you all is - any of you from Puerto Rico or traveled there recently? Have recommendations for where I should walk? eat? sleep? drink?

Any recommendations would be great!

ive visited countless times to san juan since almost all my family lives there but ive never seen a obviously gay-anything over there

no advice but paying attention

unless you want some tourist sites :/

Oh, that's surprising. I thought there was a vibrant gay community in old san juan. From the tour book and tripadvisor, it seemed like there would be a lot.

Most of the hotels around the Condado are gay-friendly and the concierge can give you information about where to go.

There are several gay clubs on the other side of the freeway from the Condado around Avendia Juan Ponce De León.

If you speak spanish, you'll find it much easier to get around. Keep in mind that Puerto Rico is still fairly conservative and even though San Juan is more tolerant, there's not the visible gay community that you see in major cities in the US.

i dont know about puerto rico. someone told me that there many of the latin men there are along some level of bisexuality and sometimes will openly stare or flirt with you but it is not "announced" that they are gay. it sounded like from what a friend said that there are indeed gay and bi guys all around but people aren't very "out". so it sounds like it's a "look but don't touch" kinda place. i have never been and i'm sure there are gay bars/clubs but i would imagine based on what i heard and what others have said it that you really have to seek them out and if that's the case, it sounds like they are out of the way and possibly in some nondescript little tucked away place. my advice is to be careful and not openly flirt with people there that you are not sure are gay. from what i understand there is a very macho culture for men there and you would not want to offend anyone. if someone is smiling at you, i guess you can smile back but i wouldn't be openly flirting with anyone there unless they initiated with me.
