Default Bullies

Hi-

On Tuesday, after I ate lunch at school I went to the bathroom, and four guys were in there. I was called a "queer," by one of them, and the other said that he was sick of having to be nice to queers, and the other two laughed. I told my guidance counselor and she's setting up a meeting with our Dean of Students, for her and I.

I needed to get that out, let me know any advice.

OK, before I start dispensing advice - are you out?

It is never right for people to say things like that. Blow this up into a local/national news story and make those losers sorry.

It's not national news if the guidance counselor and school are on it. And shaming (which is what it would amount to if the bullies were exposed in the national media) doesn't solve problems, it makes them worse.

Lex is correct, the situation is very different if the OP is out or closeted. In any case, that sort of behavior is completely unacceptable, but it does sound like the guidance counselor, at least, realizes that.

Sometimes it's just an education issue. Sometimes the offending kids' parents are just as bigoted. So it's not always as simple as it seems to solve the problem, but it sounds like at least the OP has support.

I am out, and I will be meeting with administration tomorrow, and this is something that from what I hear, our HS administration makes them shake and they are scared for doing things like this.

I just need some advice, and help.
