| Posting Anonymously Posts: 34,191 Join Date: Dec 2007 | So I am an uncircumcised male and whenever I get erect, my foreskin never fully retracts and still covers most of the glans. Is that normal/common for uncircumcised males? I've heard of a condition called phimosis but I don't know much about it. If I do have it, is it suggested that I get circumcised? Has anyone been circumcised after birth and if so, how'd it go and how much would it cost (I don't think general insurance covers it)? |

| Guest Posts: n/a | it should be normal. You only need to circumsize if the foreskin is excessively long. There's no reason to circumsize as long as you keep it clean. Just rmbr to pull the foreskin all the way back when you shower HOWEVER, if you cannot seem to pull it all the way back do not continue to pull it because it could result in bleeding. Some ppl are just like that and simply cannot pull back thier foreskin. i would ask kara blut for more info if i were you tho... |

In mild cases where you're able to retract enough to clean under the foreskin when you're not erect, it generally doesn't cause problems. Your physican can determine whether the problem is actually frenulum breve. There's a flap of skin (the frenulum) that connects the foreskin and the underside of the head of the penis. In frenulum breve, this skin is short or thickened to the point where the foreskin can't retract. It can be a problem if the foreskin doesn't retract when non-erect or if the foreskin becomes trapped behind the head of the penis (paraphimosis). Treatment doesn't always require surgery and to answer your question, health insurance does cover it as a medically necessary surgical procedure. |
