Default Cutting and giving blood to Red Cross?

Can you give blood if you are a cutter? I cut a couple days ago and there is a blood drive coming up. Can I give them blood? I love giving blood to save people but is it allowed? Do you think it's a good idea since my cutting has been getting worse lately?

You will have to look at the blood donation laws for your specific country/area, as each will be different. They may not allow people with self-inflicted injuries to donate, due to risk of infection from what you used to injure yourself.

Here in NZ they require that you wait a month after a minor injury before donating; I would assume that self-injury would count in this exclusion. Again you'll have to check for your area though (unless you also live in NZ ).

NZ seems to be very strict though, if you as much as fart you can't donate for a week...

The best thing to do would probably be to ask them The people there are nurses and doctors, they are not here to judge you. The worse that could happened would be to get some advice about your cutting habits and a refusal for giving blood.

Take care, Cécile
