We have had to contact several members about copyright photos in their galleries, attachments, avatars and profile pictures etc recently.
On the photo upload page for the galleries there is a clear message which says:
COPYRIGHT NOTICE: The Home Page galleries are solely intended for sharing your personal photos. Do not upload photos that are not yours or that you do not have explicit permission to post.
Uploading copyrighted material of others without permission will result in removal of privileges and cause your gallery to be closed.
Code of Conduct item 15 says:
When uploading photos to your gallery, as attachments in the forums, as avatars or anywhere else on Empty Closets, make sure you own the copyright or have the copyright holder's permission to do so. If you upload images where the copyright is owned by others without their permission they will be deleted and you may be banned from further use of the gallery system.
This applies to the whole of EC. To clarify:
If you have taken the photo yourself you own the copyright in it so can upload it here with no problems (if it shows other people you should really check they are happy though).
If the photo was taken by a friend or family member then they are the copyright holder, even if it is a photo of you. Ideally you should ask their permission but in practice it is very unlikely to be a problem.
Photos found on the internet will be copyright by the photographer and/or the website they are on. They are NOT for you to take and use for your own purposes, and may not be uploaded to any part of EC. The only exception would be if you had written permission from the copyright holder to use them that way. However we do allow them to be linked in forum posts using the http://www.emptyclosets.com/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif icon as they remain on the original site when doing so.
Could everyone please check your galleries, avatars, profile pictures and signatures to make sure there are no copyright images there, and remove or replace any that are.
If you are not sure you can use the Ask The Mods section to ask our opinions on specific images and we will try to help.
