[Cover Photo Competition] Couples - we need your help! [For Full Spectrum 3]

Full Spectrum needs a high-resolution picture (5.0 megapixels or more) of a gay or lesbian couple kissing, to be featured on the next issue's cover.

Particularly, full body pictures with some space in them (see the cover of Full Spectrum release 1 for a general idea) will be preferred, as we need that space to insert the titles. At the very least, the picture will have to have a background-only area at the top (that is, an area where there aren't faces nor anything) where the magazine's "Full Spectrum" header would be placed.

The cover is the only major component of Full Spectrum Release 3 which is still missing, so I encourage you to submit your pictures as soon as possible.

While all received pictures will be included (in the same fashion as with our first cover competition) only one will be featured on the cover. I haven't decided on the method to choose it, although I'm thinking of picking the most technically suitable ones and if there's more than one, using a public poll here to decide on which one to use.

You can send your entries to submissions (at) fullspectrummagazine (dot) com. There is no set deadline, but as Full Spectrum 3 will be released this month, I'd prefer you to send it within one week, two at most.



Legal stuff: By sending us your picture, you grant the Full Spectrum Project non-exclusive publishing rights, so that we can publish it in the magazine. This grant of rights is not revocable (that protects us from having to destroy an issue in the future), and royalty-free (you may not charge us for using it)

In plain language, we can use your work in Full Spectrum, but you retain the ownership of it and are free to license it for use by anyone else under the licensing terms you wish to use.

I'm taking my phone to the Black Lion on Saturday, but the sort of quality photos I can get there wouldn't be magazine cover quality unfortunately. :(

If possible, send pictures in portrait format (that is, width < height), as Full Spectrum's format has those characteristics.

I've already gotten some pictures (landscape format) but I think I can work around that if needed.

However there are three issues.

1) Way too small.

2) I'd need a version without the text.

3) Does that photo belong to you?

But if you can get a hi-res copy without the text and it belongs to you or to someone willing to license it for use in FS, then it's a great picture.

At the moment Full Spectrum's print resolution (~133 lpi) is only acceptable. The best would be reaching 175 lpi, that is art magazine quality, which would require all pictures to have a resolution of 350 dpi. As a page of Full Spectrum is about 8.3 by 11.7 inches, that would imply that a full-page picture should be 2,905 x 4,095 pixels... about 12 megapixels!

So, for now we're settling for 200-300 dpi... that is, pictures with a resolution of 1,660 x 2,340 pixels at the very minimum (preferably more). 300 dpi would require 2,490 x 3,510 pixels.

The competition has been ended. Only two submissions by the same person were received. Thankfully one of them is good enough for the cover. You'll see it in FS3.
