View Full Version : Does an iPod touch need a plan?

Yeah basically the title.
I was just wondering if there is a monthly fee to use the internet on the touch, like there is on a phone. Is the iPod Touch basically: you buy it and you can use how much you want without having to pay for anything again?
Because if there is a fee, I'd rather just upgrade to an iPod classic. :]
Thanks.

The ipod touch uses Wi-fi, so as long as there free wifi access there is no fee. There is no Cellular technology in the ipod touch, so you can only access the internet when there is wifi.
On a side note: I love mine and take it everywhere.

Yup. ^
Basically, your internet bill is your internet fee, provided that you have a wireless router. May as well taken advantage of it if you have one.

Oh okay thanks a lot guys!
I appreciate it, really.
I think I may wait a while and just get a Classic though.
The iPod Touch was released about 3 months after the iPhone originally, and I have reason to believe there will be an upgraded version of the Touch released later this year (like the 3G). Since I really don't have the money to buy a Touch now and then later this year I guess I'll just wait. :]

They released a larger itouch (32gb) recently.
They also released a software upgrade online (for about $10 I think) which allows you to download applications for your ipod.
But aside from those minor upgrades I really wouldn't be expecting any major changes to the ipod touch until the next version is released (which would be anywhere between 6-18 months).
PPS I have an ipod classic 80gb, and while I love it, I regret not getting a touch, since I only have about 12gb of songs and the rest is just crap I store on there.

Yeah, I see what you're saying.
I'm not really the guy to have songs I don't actually listen to on my iPod so there will be A LOT of space. Plus the only videos I'll probably have are music videos since I think it'll be too straining to be staring at a 3.5in screen for too long.
I'll check out the specs now and compare them- I'm not really in a rush to buy this.
Thanks for your feedback. :]

Apple will probably update the iPod touch, and the others also, in September, they've done that will all iPods in recent years. So I'd wait a few weeks if I were you!
