When I was discharged from a local hospital this evening, I was told to apply a "warm compress" to my chest 4 times a day for 30 mintues each. They said a warm washcloth would work well for this, but as I've just discovered, it doesn't stay warm for very long! Is there any trick to keeping a washcloth warm for any longer than, say, 5 minutes, or should I just go out and buy a heating pad?

If you use almost too-hot water, it should keep warm for a while...
Why were you in hospital? Too much rough sex?

Hot water, not so it is burning. cover with plastic, then a towel and it should last longer. If not as long as needed, warm up the wash cloth with water again.

I'm doing okay now, thanks ^^ it's something wrong with my chest muscles, which sometimes results in me having trouble breathing. The thing they put on your arm sounds like a warm compress, actually.
I really don't like hospitols. You wait around forever, and the doctors are always in a rush to find out what's wrong with you and get you on your way as quickly as possible. It doesn't really feel like they care about actually treating you. But, I can't complain ^^ they figured out what was wrong, and I'm taking steps to recover.
The warm washcloth really wasn't working, and no, I hadn't tried a warm water bottle, but I figured it'd be easier to just go out and get a heating pad :P so I did. They did tell me to make sure to not put the pad directly onto my skin, so I'll be careful about that.

This is just a suggestion, but if you one of those travel casserole dishes, heat up the lava pad wrap it in towel and it will stay warm for hours.

Ahh ; ; I know how that is, I'm missing a tooth as well. It really isn't so bad, it's not like people run away in terror or look disgusted or anything, heh.
I am feeling a lot better now. For like a week and a half, I was suffering from chest pain without knowing what had caused it. Finally, I learn that I simply pulled a chest muscle while helping my brother move a few weeks back, and I didn't feel it until recently. The heating pad really helps ^^ but when I'm at the office, I have to make do with just advil, heh.
