That's a logo I designed for the magazine. Let me know what you think. You're all welcome to submit other possible logos.
Oh, and tell me what you think.

This is a "thecloset" version of the logo. However, the name is just a suggestion, so this is just a preview.

Right now you have pink/red then purple... it blends together too much...

It's a wonderful attempt, but I don't know. I like it, but I'm not sure it represents everyone and everything about the magazine...it doesn't necessarily have to be something gay-related, but...I don't know.
I don't mean to tread on your toes Fred, so please don't feel that way!

Does any one like purple flower, or pink? I was thinking about a blue water lily, and so it'll look less ferminine, and on EC we have a blue door.

I like the logo on the top of this webpage. Using it will keep everything consistent. Plus it's neither feminine nor masculine.

I think it would be good to keep some variant of the opening door in the logo or on the mag title banner somewhere. That doesn't rule out the other ideas though, as the door could be on the top right with the site name, and the main mag logo taking up most of the rest of the top.

to be honest i really like the open door.. or some variation of the picture that dave has with the two silhouttes. Something neutral, something which isn't femanine but something that speaks for itself.

I thought the site owners would sue me for copyright infringement. That's why I started this thread.

Well... there are some new proposed logos.
1) Logo Blue: That is, the old logo with a blue flower instead of a pink one. The font has been changed to Optima (Zapf Humanist 601). It's an "ecwebzine" version. Check out the "We need a name" thread for details.
2) Colorwheel: A new suggestion. Some didn't like the flower so I chose something more abstract. It isn't exactly a gay pride icon (8 sectors instead of 6), but it is suggestive enough for those who know.

I prefer the flower logo to the colourwheel. The rainbow, even though it's not your typical "rainbow", is a little overdone in my opinion. The ecwebzine logo is more original, and more visually appealing (and professional looking). Just my opinion, feel free to ignore me :D

The blue flower is just as feminine and irrepresentational as the pink one. but again, it's a good work. Just not for the magazine.

How about this one?
It's a combination of miaplacidus's work and mine.

It doesn't have to be that opening door, just an opening door? :icon_wink
I like Kimi's idea.

I must admit, I also like the idea of retaining the opening door in some form within the logo. I think it maintains consistency - a better link, if you will - to what the site is about.

Kimi and I are working on this. I've asked him for versions in different colors. I like the open door idea too, but I'd like it to be different from EC's. As you can see in my posts, I've always tried to give the magazine its own visual identity (different fonts, and completely different suggested logos). However, I think that Kimi's idea is a perfect blend between a totally different visual identity and the one of Empty Closets.
I'll re-do the logo with other colors and different styles. I think I'm going to stick to "Optima" as the default font. We'll need a poll later...

I suggest something like this:
Too, um, "EC forum"-like, in my opinion. I'd like our project to have a visual identity different from that of EC.
However, I am not the only one here. Soon I'm going to post a poll on this subject.

I think "The Door" is just WAY too overdone. Cliche is very near the top of the "design dont's" list.
The flower, as Guitar girl says, really doesn't represent anything about the magazine, specifically. And it's a very overused symbol...
I think the problem we are having, concept-wise, is that there really isn't any one thing that can sum up gay life. (Yes, I am refusing to acknowledge the flag) I mean, people always say that their sexuality is only a small part of them, but I completely disagree. I think that our trouble in choosing an icon is evidence of that.
Maybe a purely type-based logo is needed here?

Hmm... just thought I'd show you all a few of my ideas. So here's what our 'flower conversation' has inspired....
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u303/BrentonMailman/logoprev1.gif
Are we seeing weed plant in this flower? Do we like the type? Do we hate it all? Do we see a pill in the "ec" ? ... this would be bad.
Remember that everything here is 100% not done. I will be trying another direction tomorrow, hopefully.
And yes-- I know I can be quoted as saying that the flower represents nothing about the magazine... but so what. :icon_bigg
[EDIT] And oh yeah, The name is just what I was using to work with... whatever we decide could probably be adapted to fit this as well.
May the force be with you all.
