ecwebzine news report
May 26th, 2007.
The project is slowly but steadily going towards its goal. Since I came up with the idea, the following has been done:
* A name for the magazine has been chosen (ecwebzine)
* A basic logo design (door-based) has been chosen.
* The project's organization is ready except for one detail.
* The contact e-mail addresses and phone numbers have been set up.
* A very basic version of our web site is running (www.emptyclosets.net/magazine).
* Some basic master pages have been posted.
As detailed on the "EC Magazine?" thread, the master pages carry the "0.1x" version number. Seeing that we have a name and logo design already, I've decided to label the next preview release as 0.2.
A proposed schedule follows.
Version 0.1
Version 0.2
Version 0.3:
* Default basic style for the magazine chosen.
* First complete cover design.
Version 0.4:
* First content received, edited and merged with the magazine files.
* First complete mock-up (generic cover + master pages)
From version 0.5 until version 0.9, these are internal previews released to team members only.
Versions 0.5, 0.6:
*Actual content replaces generic texts and pictures.
Version 0.7:
* ecwebzine Beta. No more design changes if possible. Content is still being added.
Version 0.8:
* ecwebzine Release Candidate 1. No more design changes. Content can be added still, but it'd be better if no more content is added at this stage.
Version 0.9:
* ecwebzine Release Candidate 2. Identical to the final version, if possible. This version will be sent to the EC owners and administrators in order for them to review and if possible approve its contents.
Version 1.0:
* First issue of ecwebzine, publicly available.
The website will be updated in the meantime as well, of course.
Like always, everyone is welcome to join the team and submit content. Just PM me or visit our website for contact information.

The timetable is a good idea! Keeps everyone on the "same page" (as the super nanny would say!)

Hey people, the project is totally inactive at the moment. I can't do everything myself. Let's do something...

I've started writing again recently, but I'm kind of at a loss for what to write for the mag. PM me suggestions if you'd like, I'm really stumped!

goodness, i was not even aware there was an EC magazine! I would love to participate. Like SteamGiant though, I'm not sure what to write for the mag. Whatever ideas you come up with let me know and i can put something together as well.

We are in the process of licensing two posts from their authors so that they can be published on ecwebzine. The authors are willing to cooperate so we'll make it official as soon as we have a proper licensing scheme, which is being drafted at the moment.
Again, EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO CONTRIBUTE. Thanks.

Seeing that there is a full cover mock-up available and that I am in the process of licensing content, I have decided to proceed with the schedule and announce Version 0.4.
The first cover mock-up is available here:

No, not yet.
I suppose that we'll wait until we can start the contest.

That'll be once most people are off school/college or are done with tests and exams. I think next weekend unless that's likely to be a problem for a significant number of people.
I'm not sure how long it will run for - that's up to Fred and the team to fit in with the mag timescales. About 2-3 weeks would be reasonable I think.

full/spectrum
community magazine
NEWS REPORT
August 25th, 2007.
This is more of an announcement instead of a news report. Let's start.
The de-facto board of directors of The Full Spectrum / Community Magazine Project, decides to:
1. Officially continue with the development of our Full Spectrum magazine, which implies that all processes suspended due to difficulties already detailed, are now active.
2. Start a reorganization in order to speed up development and reflect the significant changes to the magazine's structure and support.2.1. Differentiate between "team members" and "contributors". Everyone helping the magazine in any way will be considered a contributor, but only those who are more involved with the project's internals (that is, willing to have a part in the magazine's design, our website's design, those who help to run the magazine by editing content, taking care of general administration or content reception, those who express the will to submit content regularly, or those who want to regularly help the project in any way) will be considered team members. The main difference between the two categories is that team members have power of decision regarding project internals while regular contributors don't.
2.2. Once the differentiation is ready, run elections to create a board of directors which will be responsible of taking the ultimate decisions, introducing important changes and generally running the project and supervising development.
I'd like to point out that we aren't officially associated to Empty Closets as a legal entity or its owners anymore. The Full Spectrum / Community Magazine project is, as its name suggests, an independent project run by a community (which happens to be Empty Closets-centric at the moment) which due to being a subset of EC's community has a sub-forum here, thanks to Paul's generosity.
Members willing to join the team (as team members) are always welcome to contact me or post here in order to express their will to do so. Those who just want to contribute in an one-time basis or without getting involved with project internals can do so, too. No one is going to be "kicked out", and I don't bite. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or post them here.
I'll now restart the projects as planned. Thanks for your attention.

As requested by Fred, because the magazine is now not an official EC project, I have moved this section from EC Stuff to General Chat and changed the title and description.

The Full Spectrum acting Board of Directors is at the moment voting over the subject of changing the schedule. The final decision will be posted soon.

15th Sep 2007, 07:45 PM
The Board of Directors has just approved the new schedule:
CURRENT VERSION: 0.6.4 (as of September 15th, 2007)
Version 0.7 - At least 10 articles received + some artwork.
Version 0.8 - PRIVATE BETA: Basic design finished. Some pieces of the work will be released to the public, such as design samples.
Version 0.9 - PUBLIC BETA: Design finished. No more content added. No major changes allowed, only minor fixes. This release will be shown to team members and some other people. Suggested corrections will follow.
Version 0.9.5 - RELEASE CANDIDATE: This one will bIe a special copy sent to Paul and the EC mods. Although we are an independent project, we want the magazine to be EC Code of Conduct-compatible in terms of content. If they suggest any modifications, we'll evaluate them and eventually send them a modified version as Release Candidate 2. If they are OK with any of the Release Candidates, that one will be immediately re-branded as...
Version 1.0 - the final release which will be available for public download in various formats.

Well, we have the cover image now, and we expect to receive some more content very soon. So I hope we'll be at version 0.7 soon.

How's it going, Fred? Are you getting some good content coming in? Do you have a possible launch date yet?
Miaplacidus
16th Nov 2007, 05:20 PM
The design is finished and we have everything we need - EXCEPT for the content. I've asked for it and people have told me that they were working on it, but so far, very few works have been received. We need about 10 text works in order to consider releasing. So far we have two...
That's what is preventing us from releasing. Everything else is ready, we just need the actual content.
Paul_UK
17th Nov 2007, 04:06 AM
How many people are working on content? Will you have the ten once those are finished (assuming all of them do actually get finished), or do you still need more?
If it can be done, I think launching in mid December for the holiday period would be good. As you say though, we need the content...
Miaplacidus
17th Nov 2007, 10:50 AM
It can be done... we just need the content. And yes, we still need more. The 10 figure is just a number, we can go with more if that's the case.

Close. I got stuck with a program update, had to reinstall all my fonts. I'll try to finish the editing tomorrow, then I'll merge the content.

I've decided to release on March 1 to keep a regular bimonthly schedule.

That's a good idea. I like the idea of a fixed release schedule (assuming of course there continues to be enough content).
