Following on from New Jersey, Maine and California, let's cross the Atlantic.

What's the first thing that comes to your head when someone mentions the United Kingdom?

Yes. Also we call trash "rubbish", sidewalk "pavement", gas "petrol".... And we put an extra "u" in "colour" for no obvious reason. :grin:Uhm... because that's how it's spelled!

Labour, neighbour, favourite, rumour, colour... hmmn... I'm sure there are others.

Centre, theatre, metre... do you guys spell aluminum aluminium?

Don't forget couch/sofa "chesterfield." I didn't know about pavement, though. Oh, sweater "jumper" and... well no one knows when I refer to the article of clothing called a "top." That is... well basically anything you can wear on the top half of your body that isn't a t-shirt or a sweater. And it isn't button-up i.e. you have to pull it over your head.

Oh... truck "lorry" and trunk "boot," right?

Hail Britannia, Britannia rules the seas...

Seriously, that's what I think of. And "Remember, remember the 5th of November... gunpowder, treason, and plot."

My mum was British.

But definitely the accent is hot.

'the united kingdom'?
well, the first thing that comes to MY mind is 'bloody hell, i live in one fu**ed-up country...'

...the UK in brazil? well, at least we might see some sunshine more than once a year...

...and as for you americans who steal our culture, those sports you call 'soccer' and 'football',
those are called 'football' and 'rugby'! you took two of our sports and changed the names around! give them back! now! no, i will put my straitjacket back on! no, no i don't want the injection... *is carted away back to the asylum*

Ooh - someone resurrected a dead thread ;)

Well - I should be good at this one (given that I lived in the UK for rather a long time).

Let's see:...
Drizzle
Dirty Grey (NOT blue) sea
Green fields (well, all that rain has to have some benefit)
Narrow roads, small cars
Everything close together (no W I D E open spaces)
Such a variety of accents in such a small space

I could probably go on - but I'd just bore people silly...
