View Full Version : multiple-level quoting?

Is there anyway to make it so that when we quote as a reply, it includes material that is already quoted in the message we're replying to?
What I mean is that if I'm replying by quoting to this kind of message:
Person 1 text
|
L__Person 2 quoted text
I only end up with Person 1's text--Person 2's quoted stuff goes away. As a quoting-fanatic, I hate this. I would rather manually have to delete unwanted quoted material than have to reconstruct it manually. Sometimes you need to include the material someone else has quoted in your reply to provide proper context.

AFAIK this is just how things work with VBulletin....at least, that is how it appears to be with the other VBulletin forum I regularly go to.

Gods the silly behaviour this program has by design. I mean, it's harder programmatically to code it to remove the existing quoted material, so you'd think that multiple-level quoting would at least be an option. *sigh*

well for some reason, it seems to work when you are PMing people.

agreed! It's funny there's at least two of us on here. I've got to say, it is bad programming to not realize that this is a problem. when i add stuff to homemade programs, i usually have someone else try out the feature and make comments before i consider it done.

it's intended to work like that, because way too many people just hint the quote button, don't shorten a bit of the quoted text and reply with a one-liner below (or even worse: above) a 50 line quote. and the next guy will hit quote again and reply above that double quote and so on ;) yes, it happens more than just sometimes :(
