As some have said before, this is the new trend.

Those who have heard about my country, what do you think about when you hear URUGUAY?

I think of colonial towns, pristine and untouched beaches and the capitol city,(which to me sound rather unique and i can't forget it for some reason.) Montevideo.

The guy in my science class from Uraguay who spoke a few dozen words in English.

I can speak more than a few words but my accent is thick... I wish I could correct it but I can't while living here...

Thursdays and Fridays being their weekends. Now that I say that, I may have gotten the days wrong. In the States, it's Saturday and Sunday. I think of swamps when I hear Uruguay. I don't know why.

This may come off wrong, but whenever I hear "Uruguay" - I can't help but hear U R GAY. I probably need to learn something about it so I have more material to think of when presented with the word Uruguay.

Um... as far as I know, there aren't big swamps in Uruguay... in fact I don't know any swamps at all. And the weekend is Saturday and Sunday like in the states.

I knew this was going to come up and I am ashamed to say I know nothing. Fortunately, this evening I was watching the Travel Channel and there will be a show on Uruguay within the next few days, check your local listings. ;) The only thing they say about Uruguay in the promo though is that there are three cows to every person there. I look forward to learning about your country.

Uruguay is a South American country. The city where I live, Atlantida, is at 34d 42' S, 55d 44' W (latitude, longitude). That is obviously in Uruguay. It is "between" Argentina and Brazil...

The official language is Spanish, but some Uruguayans (for example, me) speak English too.

It's the country who won the first World Cup in 1930 isn't it?

Yes. We hosted it and we won it. The final match was against Argentina.

We also won the 1950 World Cup. The final match was against Brazil and it took place in Maracana Stadium.

Uruguay... I think of it's location on a map. I honestly don't really know much about it's geography or customs or anything.
