That's right! I got a job here in Melbourne on Chapel Street (stereotypically the "gay district") working in a coffee house. I start my training on saturday and so can't wait!

So I'm curious: if you guys work, what do you do?

Good for you! :eusa_clap

Random fact: Here in Melbourne, we call a person who makes coffee a "Barrista". It's an Italian word - go figure... Anyway, a friend of a friend won the prize for best Barrista in Melbourne a couple of years ago!

Hey well done. Its nice to get money flowing in. When I was in high school i worked as a cashier at Coles. I left that when i finished school to take some time of to travel. When I got back from that i was broke so i when looking again. I ended doing the same thing (cashier) at Woolies. I personally find some humor in that (Woolworth and Coles are rival supermarket chain here in Australia). Thats what im currently doing. I hate it so much but i need the money. Im casually looking for a better job but im not having much luck. Im not good at job searching, i had a bit of help get my last ones, not that its that hard to get a job with the major retailers. When i was high school ppl use to joke that i should go into modeling. If only that really was an option.
Oh yea ill be on jury duty next month if that counts as work.

If I every find myself down in melbourne I know where to get a coffee. Good luck with the job and hope it works out well 4 u.

Congratulations Dave! Let us know how it goes. And try not to spend too long eyeing up and chatting up the cute guys..... :)

I do website design and IT. I'm technically self employed though about 90% of the work I do is for one small company.

I used to work clothing retail at (-gag-) Old Navy (-gag-), and will never do anything of the kind again.

Now I sit around at Office Max while people help themselves. It's incredibly easy, and the only thing I have to do is sell warranties and credit cards for extra on my pay check.

Awesome Dave, congratulations!!! That's so awesome! ^^

I used to work for Network Solutions, but I was under too much stress there and had to leave. I'm between jobs now, as it can be really tough finding work around here, particularly when you don't own a vehicle and after the schools let out for the summer.

Hmmmm - we have one in Toronto too. Its an area of the city that is recognized as being predominantly gay, catering to gay customers. In Toronto it's on Church Street, which is right downtown - one or two streets east of Yonge.

Yes - as Paul suggested, it would be quite distracting with all the cute guys around!

Congratulations!

I just hope you never get a customer like my father, I'm sure by now there must be a warning poster of him in every restaurant in Pretoria.

I love people who works at coffee shop...they are usually cute and smells really good...because they make coffee. But usually they turned out to be straight...

Congrats on gainful employment, Dave! As for me, I do video editing and archival for a major corporation. No, it's not nearly as glamorous as one would think, but it's still fun.

Congratulations Dave! Sounds like a fun place to work!

I've been a home-based child care provider for something like 18 or 19 years. I've lost count! I could write a book about funny things kids do and say. Everyday is an adventure!
