View Full Version : How gay are you?

Okay, we all know stereotypes suck. But I saw this on another GLBT site I used to go to, and it was pretty fun to read. :P According to stereotypes, how gay are you? (ie list all the stereotypes that apply to you)
Let's see.
I have a "gay" voice.
I like rainbows.
I like Madonna and Cher (well, a few of their songs anyway...)
I don't play sports.
Umm... oh God, there's probably a hundred other things but I can't think right now.
Oh, and I like boys. That's pretty stereotypical for gay males. :P

I like Heavy Metal
I wear Metal T-Shirts and Jeans
I like Wrestling
I used to play Soccer
I like to Party and drink lots of Crownies
I play Electric Guitar
I hang out with Guys and not Girls
I think Guys are SEXY
Not very gay at all!

Um,
I wear a lot of black.
I'm not in the "popular" crowd.
Most of my friends are guys.
I like girls a lot too. :)

Amazing! I like guys too!
/end melodrama
I guess I'm emotional. (Is that a stereotype? Not histrionic, of course. I just become moody at certain times.)
I don't like to play sports for competition. However, if my friends were just playing soccer, volleyball, or football for fun, I'd be glad to join. I've been known to tackle with the force of a rhinoceros...I'm not sure if that's a compliment or a detriment.
Oh. I cross my legs when I sit down, but that's usually because I need to brush my legs/feet off. Feetses of hobbitses are hard to clean. Wow. I'm not even a "Lord of the Rings" fan. Stupid Gollum...
Erm...I don't think I fit a lot of the stereotypes...so my posting is a bit pointless.
Eh. I had nothing else to do. Well, goodnight.

I reckon i probably fit into a few sterotypes...I would have to say that on average my musical taste is fairly steroetypically gay, with many musicals and soundtrack types songs, as well as some Madonna, and Christina Aguilera, but then again i also have DBSK (Korean pop band), Paolo Nutini, Ok Go, the Romantics, Evanescence, Coolio, and Armand Van Helden in my favourites list atm
Also, most of my best friends are female, with the exception of a few...then again, the main group i hang around with, the majority is guys (most of whom know about me)...so i guess a bit of both there....
With my movie taste, i have such a wide variety there that on some nights i fit right into the stereotype of musicals and chick flicks, but i will also go for a good action film (it has to be good tho) and i LOVE horror, especially where theres lot of blood and entertaining deaths
And i dont think i have a gay voice....but i can definateyl put it on when i want to

Uhh.. Well my favourite colour is purple and apparently it's the gay colour.
I'm tomboyish. (Well at least not girly)
Most of my friends at uni are guys. 10/12 of them are guys to be precise O_o
And a few of my t-shirts have got rainbow print on them XD
And I can't stand most chick flicks. I'm an action movie lover.

Let's see...
GAY
My hands usually move when I talk
I enunciate, to the point that people in high school thought I had a British accent
I like Madonna, Cher, the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, etc.
I love certain musicals to death (definitely not all)
I love "chick flicks" (although I hate the term because really all it means is a movie with a strong emotional element)
I like subtitled films and go to film festivals
I love dance music
I love dancing and yes my arms go WAAAAAY above my head (at times, not all the time because then I'd be exhausted
I understand grammar and correct other people's disturbing misuse of it
I'm excellent at academics
I hate watching sports except for men's gymnastics, men's swimming, and men's diving
I hate playing sports except for swimming and badminton
I am useless at anything that is about being "handy" around the house... and also quite disinterested in said things
I like straight women better than straight men
I'm usually way more comfortable hanging out with women than men unless the men are gay...
I was excited that my friend wanted to go see the Bratz movie with me (although we do both get the irony and weren't expecting it to actually be good, just hilariously over-the-top) (two words: uh DUH!)
I always want to see the latest "teen" movies (John Tucker Must Die, Mean Girls, etc.)
I LOVE San Francisco
I love city living and hate the suburbs and rural areas
My idea of "camping" is a night at the Marriott
I hate the outdoors just for the sake of the outdoors
NOT SO GAY
I collect comic books (nerdy: yes; gay: not as much)
I can program computers (I'm never sure if this is non-gay or not but it doesn't seem stereotypically gay)
I love female singer-songwriters (Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden, Chantal Kreviazuk, etc.) (more stereotypically lesbian than gay)
I hate cleaning my place
I hate opera
I hate shopping, ESPECIALLY for shoes
I hate people who are obsessed with fashion
I read fantasy and sci fi
I hate the thought of make-up
I hate the thought of shaving/waxing one's chest
I don't think the clubs are the be-all and end-all of creation
I don't think that just because I'm gay I have to unthinkingly accept every single left-seeming proposition (although I am very leftist)
I don't believe in the groupthink bullshit of gay student organisations (trust me, the STORIES I could tell you)
I will not vote for someone just because they're gay
I love horror movies (that don't involve torture porn like that excremental Lindsay Lohan "I Know Who Killed Me" movie)
I don't love people who are tabloid fodder (PH, LL, etc.)
I don't care what a marvelous shade of chartreuse you painted your dining room
I'm not afraid to have an unpopular opinion and to voice it, loudly
I don't go along with someone just because they're young and cute... in fact I'm usually more suspicious of attractive people than anything else, especially if everyone else fawns over them
I don't actually love the fact that everyone thinks I look younger than I am
{related}I do not lie about my age even though I could totally get away with it
I don't like seeing naked guys (strippers) dance in "public" (i.e. a club)
I don't go apeshit over Pride parades... you've seen one city's Pride parade, you've seen ALL that city's Pride parades
I'm sure there's more... but overall I'm much more gay-seeming than not, which is good, since I am gay and if people can tell that, it saves me a lot of hassle; plus then the guys who aren't as gay-seeming but are into me don't have to think, "I wonder if he's gay?"
Cuz really, if anyone wonders if I'm gay, they're pretty clueless.

Well, I must seem somewhat gay, because my friends came to that possibility when considering why my wife and I separated.
However, I'm a separated dad, who works in corporate Canada, and now drives a convertible - which I'd say would indicate that I'm straight.
I also appreciate the arts, don't play sports or even watch them, love to dance, and love music - including Cher, Barbra Streisand, ABBA, Erasure

Lets see
I write poetry
I love shopping(but not for shoes)
I do that thing where I flap my wrists up and down(and I hate myself for it:))
I am not into sports.
I like Madonna
I am compassionate
I am very mature for my age
I love cats
I am polite and proper
I care about how I look
I use Pro Active
I am excellent in school (in 3 advanced classes)
I cross my legs when I sit
I think guys are yummy
I use the word yummy
I am pretty gay:icon_bigg

8th Aug 2007, 04:17 PM
Okay, so you guys made me think of some more.
Love shopping, hate shopping for shoes.
I'm not interested in any of the "handy" stuff either
I like to dance but I could never go to a club like every day or anything, probably not even every week.
I use proper grammar, or at least I try to, but I don't always use real words.
I love "chick flicks", but I also love action movies and horror sometimes.
I like Spice Girls.
I cross my legs.
Most of my friends are girls, and I like it that way. Boys are generally scary. >.<
Umm... I love Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden, and a lot of other female singers, and people at my school class that as gay. >.<
Umm... I'd never go see a male stripper or anything like that.
Yeah... I think that's it for now.

Wait...since when is wanting to speak [grammatically] correctly a stereotype?
Most of the gay guys to whom I've spoken (har har) haven't an inkling of higher-level grammar (id est, the differences between "who" and "whom," "lay" and "lie," et cetera).
Intentionally defying the normal rules of grammar to sound "normal" seems fine, though. (At least in my opinion.) An example: saying "I don't know what to look for" instead of "I don't know for what to look." The latter is technically grammatically correct, but the former sounds better even though it ends with the preposition "for."
Maybe I've just been talking to the wrong people.
Urrgggg...why does every reply I post in this forum always have an arrogant feel? I apologize for this. I swear I don't mean to sound haughty!

Gay:
-Been told I have an amazing sense of fashion. I tend to agree. What's sad is that it's to the point where I can point out exactly what year each trend has gone in/out. Sad.
-I have a gay-ish voice sometimes. Not always though. More like when I'm excited.
-I enunciate everything, but that's because I did musical theater for years. People have asked me where my accent comes from, and I tell them I don't have one.
-I know how to put make-up on other people. But not on myself.
-I straighten my hair daily.
-I love techno and dance music
Not so gay:
-I work on cars, like hardcore. I've effectively rebuilt my car myself.
-I'm athletic. GASP. I used to swim competitively (till like 2 months ago), currently am a competetive water polo player, and run cross country.

Urrgggg...why does every reply I post in this forum always have an arrogant feel? I apologize for this. I swear I don't mean to sound haughty! There's quite a difference between spoken English and written English... I would NEVER not end a sentence in a preposition if I ended up sounding like "I don't know for what to look." That probably even ranks as incorrect grammar at this point since grammar tends to evolve and English is a very flexible language.
In terms of being a grammarian being a gay stereotype, I guess I'm tapping the notion of gay people being more refined and educated than straight people, especially on the male end of the spectrum. Of course, stereotypes totally contradict themselves, which is yet another indication that they're far more fiction than fact.
But I'm sorry, I will NEVER stop pointing out people's seeming complete inability to discern the proper us of it's/its and just the possessive apostrophe in general these days.
I've seen people say things like "I have lots of sock's" and then follow that with "Oh that's Johns food." AHHHH! AHHHH! I say! It's the 1990s, not the 1990's! And people even do it in SIGNS where the lettering is enormous!
As for your posts sounding haughty, you just haven't mastered self-deprecation. It makes all arrogance super-palatable.

Its flexibility is probably what causes mass confusion and misuse of words. The number of exceptions is pretty staggering...at least in comparison to other languages. Then again, English is basically an intangible mess of linguistic roots, so we shouldn't really be surprised.
So...have we gone back to square one with the initial question, then?
Hah...no need to apologize to me! I used to cringe when people used "who" or "whoever" as an objective pronoun -- I think I've gotten better though. But I've developed a twitch as a reaction to a person's attempt to use "whom" or "whomever" as a nominative pronoun.
Actually, it's the 2000s. Hehe...I understand what you're saying though.
It's an apostrocatastrophe.
Oh, I used to be a great champion of self-deprecation when I was...erm...a bit suicidal.
I'll just try to be a little less verbose/pretentious from now on.
You know, you're making me believe there actually are intelligent people out there...in the real world. I don't know if I'm comfortable with this idea...

And we still don't have a name for this silly decade. Which is very weird in our increasingly buzzword-driven world.
You know, you're making me believe there actually are intelligent people out there...in the real world. I don't know if I'm comfortable with this idea...Oh don't worry... I frequently make people uncomfortable when I forget to dumb myself down.
It helps that I was in French Immersion because nothing really helps you understand your "mother tongue" as an actual language as having to learn another. And French and English share so much that it makes understanding a lot of the underlying things pretty easy... well pretty easy if you're brilliant, I guess, which I aspire to be when I'm not drooling mindlessly over cute boys. (See? Self-deprecation [though not really] and sexual innuendo in one fell swoop.)
Actually, knowing French always makes want to use the subjunctive in English properly but of course the subjunctive is nearly completely dead, and if I were the kind of person to bet, I'd say very few people ever notice that.
Obviously, I need sleep. And so to bed...

My friends refer to this time as "The Zeros." I think the title's rather self-explanatory.

Me too. (I'm only a novice in French though.) But the subjunctive is used much more frequently in Spanish.

Um, I like broadway musicals..
This summer I hand sewwed.(..sewed....sewwed..?) a plushie of myself simply because I was bored that day..
I have a rat terrier dog..
I put shiny colored highlights in my hair..
I am about as strong as a cancerous anorexic piece of tissue paper..
I think boobs and the vagina are gross..
I find penises and other parts of the male genitalia quite pleasing..
and, ofcourse, I used to play with barbies when I was little. It was either that or the ultra violent death squad GIJoes that came with man eating dinosaurs that glow blood red at night. Plus I liked the Ken dolls..
Almost all of my friends are girls.
I used to do things like giggle, say ''abfab'', and do the wrist flap thing jokingly, but it's become more and more of a bad habit.
I like typing stuff and ending it with :3
Almost all the webcomics I read usually have atleast one gay guy in it.

I guess I wouldn't fit the stereotype very much at all. I like jeans, casual shirts, T-shirts, Nike Airs, hiking boots, hunting boots, have various weapons, hunt, fish, use to trap, hiking, can do most mechanics, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, logging, work a sawmill, run a dozer, workout in a gym (home). Like most music but Rap just doesn't do anything for me, know my way around a kitchen real good, can do my own laundry and house cleaning, don't go out much as I live in the middle of nowhere, the only shopping I like is going in knowing what I need, get it and get out. Don't have any stereotypical mannerisms but do touch people when talking with them, unless a total stranger. Overall, just me.

I'm a bit of a mixed bag....
Lesbian characteristics:
- I was a tomboy all through childhood & would rather climb trees & play-fight than wear a dress or play with dolls (I hated dolls).
- I like the smell of mens deodorants, & use them sometimes.
- I don't know how to react when my female friends point out 'hot' guys.
- I've never been a 'girly' girl (ie, false nails, dresses, etc)
- I'm completely HOPELES with accessorising & hate having to shop for them.
- I like DIY projects & basic 'handy-man' stuff.
- I enjoy being outdoors.
- I've never felt comfortable with men hitting on me. Ever.
- I love The L Word.
However...
- I wear make-up (not too much) almost everyday.
- I like clothes that show my figure & dress feminine most of the time.
- I also like heels (not stillettos).
- I hate getting rained on or dirty unless it's absoloutely necessary & can't be avoided.
- I can't stand my legs/under-arms being hairy, so shave often.

I'll tell you what you should find scary firepants? The fact that I'm an interpreter in the making and I still mix up when to use the possessive apostrophe and basically never use the word "whom". In fact my English is so bad that my friend has diagnosed it:
"Flesh-eating English disease"
It's a highly contagious disease it would seem, as anyone who spends large amounts of time with me usually winds up stuttering, being grammatically incorrect and ends up having to resort to wild hand gestures to communicate.

How does the "flesh-eating" come into play? Hm...
Oh, that's all right -- just as long as you NEVER TALK TO ME. Just kidding!
Hehe...even though I don't like the English language, I still try to make other people use "whom" correctly because:
1. anyone who uses it as a nominative pronoun deserves to be poked...hard, and
2. I don't want it to end up in the dictionary labeled as an archaic word. It's a lonely word, that one...

How gay am I?
My friend's neice and her gf thought I was before I said anything even to myself
I like wearing t-shirts and jeans all the time (stereotypical tomboy stuff)
I prefer to be called an asshole rather than a bitch :roflmao:

I have never slept (as in spending the night asleep in bed) with a girl, nor have I ever had sex with a girl. The closest I got was a snog and grope when I was in my early 20s, but I just couldn't get "interested" enough to do any more.
So yeah, I'm gay. :)

I'm about as un-stereotypical as one can get. Probably the only 'gay' traits about me are that I'm semi-addicted to computers and PS2. Oh wait, I'm attracted to girls, too. :) And simply don't understand why people go around falling for Zac Efron. Or any 'hot male celebrity' for that matter.
But there's a looong list of un-stereotypical things about me. I think it would be hard for one to guess I'm a lesbian:
1~ I love wearing dresses
2~ I sometimes wear make-up
3~ I take good care of my appearance
4~ I don't like sports (except modern dance. That's awesome.)
5~ Most of my friends are girls. I just don't relate to guys. Full stop. No offence guys.
6~ I like shopping. Except food shopping lol.

- I love sports, especially those that are rough, contact sports. Tackling and wrestling people is cathartic for me.
- I love the outdoors: cross-country running, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, caving, etc.
- I'm into math and science (Eh. I hate that these are seen as typically male pursuits.)
- I prefer baggy pants and shirts with beaten-up tennis shoes.
- I nearly never wear make-up, high heels, or skirts.
- I'm mostly a loner, but my best friend is a guy.
- I used to be addicted to gaming.
- I keep my nails cut way short and unpainted.
- I have really short hair.
- I have a deeper voice than most girls.
- I haven't shaved my legs in months. Even I have a little problem with that though, but why bother when it's freezing outside?
- My brother has been calling me a dyke since I was in the third grade. It used to bother me, but now I wear it like a badge of honor.
- And lastly: I really, really like girls.
Thinking about this makes me realize how much of a dyke I really am. Awesome! (!) (!) (!)

I use the word fantabulous on an almost daily basis.. yet none of my friends have taken the clue.
I'm obsessed with strong and dominant women/divas.
Cher <3
I think guys are totally hot.
Cher <3
I like flamboyant and flashy stuff.
Cher <3
I love fashion and design.
They aren't obvious to others though.. there are more, but I'm having a memory lapse. Not enough sleep lately to think properly. So ya, if you know the "true" me.. then these stereotypes all describe me and some others too. But none of my friends really do, I'm good at hiding stuff like that.. oh, and I mention..

I like nu metal, punk, alternative, some classic rock, and a little bit of country. (Rascal Flatts ftw!)
I dress boyishly. (Is that a word?)
I act boyishly.
I like a guy.
I'm gay, just not stereotypically gay.

- I like Hilary Duff for her music
- I don't moisturise, just because I have dry skin.
- I like non-jock-y sports like gymnastics.
- You couldn't pay me to kiss a girl... actually depends how much
- I play guitar and clarinet
- I love my guitar more than life itself.
A bit of both. I think on the outside I probably come off at stereotypically straight but inside I'm gay.
