If the general public like it I wont... I plan on staying away from this cliche disaster piece ;) I prefer my indie horror films like.. Return of the Living Dead or Night of the Demons.
Nah, I'll probably end up watching it in the future but not in theaters.

I'm looking forward to watching that movie since I saw the trailer on E! months ago! Both an atractive and unusual story.
Later I talked with a guy over MSN and he started telling me about this gay story that inspired a movie, and I said "Yes, I know! Brokeback Mountain!". He was surprised to know that I knew about it. He sent me the original story by email (unfortunately it's not easy reading for a non native English speaker like me!), and eventually we met last week after he got back from a trip :)
Brokeback Mountain will be shown in the Argentine cinemas in February... I'll have to wait a little more than you unfortunately :(

Oh I can't wait for it to come out here in australia (Jan 6). It's only rated M here (which I believe is a little higher than the American PG 13+, M in Australia is recommended 15+, but anyone can get in).
For those who don't know anything about the movie, here's a 'blurb' of sorts.
================================================== ======
Brokeback Mountain
Staring Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal (the dude from The Day after Tomorrow)
Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, this film tells the story of two young men, a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy. When the pair meet during the summer of 1963, they unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection that brings complications, joys and tragedies - and proof of the endurance and power of love.
The world which Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland, yet hunger for something they can't articulate.
Although the two follow different life paths - one becoming a father of two and the other becoming a successful businessman - they reunite years later. Each is affected profoundly by the rekindling of their old feelings for each other, leading them to consider what continuing their hidden relationship could cost them.

One of my classmates asked why they were "ruining Westerns with gays." Idiot. Anyway, all the reviews I've seen of this movie have been glowing, so I hope to see it soon.

Brokeback Moutain was one of the best movies I've ever seen - the passion, storyline, EVERYTHING in it was amazing! I was a little startled by "the scene", but the reasoning behind made it perfect. It was definitely just plain awesome! SEE IT!

i saw it last weekend. idk i was kinda expecting more...more emotion. it was a good movie ill say that, and i did cry at the end, but from all the praise i heard from everyone, especially critics, i was expecting to be really moved. trying to refrain myself from spoiling anyone, i thought they could have done a lot more with the wife...i was expecting more from her.
but still overall it was a good movie...i still got very emotional and cried in certain parts.

Well I went to see it last week (was meant to write here but forgot). Personally I loved it. It broke free of the stereotypes and shows a raw love story. My friend who I saw it with didn't like it as much as I did, but he still cried ;)
Anyway, to anyone who hasnt seen it yet, I would highly recommend going.

Hey! I finally watched the movie last night with my sort-of-boyfriend (yeah, I think I owe you some lines explaining how I've been doing lately, I know).
Unfortunately I had read the short story that inspired the movie previously, so the only surprise for me was that the awfully hot sex scene in the motel was suppressed *grin*. The rest of the film is amazingly faithful to the original story. The script writer and the director have done a great job.
It is a very nice film and I'm sure it will open some people's minds. I highly commend it also.

I thought it was a beautifully acted, and amazingly filmed movie. Both Jake and Heath were unbelievable, but overall, I think the movie was a bit slow. Of course I loved it, and I did cry, but some of it could have been cut out.

Really? Here in NL it's only 14a....so i can go w/o parents lol...they have this whole "gay-friendly" thing and mark all movies including gay content lower so that gay's wont think it's becuz of the homosexual content...which i think is illegal now?

OMG thats is soooo assum....you are lucky....kinda makes me wish i had a boyfriend right now

It's 14A in BC too. That's very standard, for a movie to be R in the US and lower-rated here in Canada... and usually (maybe always) it's about the sexual content (or rather, the sexuality content because it's not like you see their genitals or anything). To say the US is regressive when it comes to sexuality and sex (and hypocritical when it comes to the sex/uality vs. violence thing) is to understate it slightly.
Happily, Final Destination 3 was 18A here (the R equivalent). What's really creepy is that my friend and I saw someone take like an 8-year-old out of the theatre as the credits for that movie were rolling. Talk about how to scar a kid for life!

I believe it has a "15" certificate in the UK (which means anyone 15 or older can see it).

Yeah, but no matter what the rating try and go see it because it was pretty good...not as good as i expected it to be....but an 8/10 none the less...the fake southern accents got on my nerves a bit...but the plot and story make up for it...and for all you who were depending on a sexscene then dont bother...the only gender who got naked was female...but you did get to see Jake/Heath's butts...which was pretty cute but nothing spectacular...they could've excersized a bit more if they wanted a drooling effect...lol...but i didn't go for the cast (but i'm a big Jake fan so it was a bonus) i went for the story...there is a little comedy but not much...it's mostly drama (obiously...but i'm not complainig cuz thats my fave)...really got annoyed with Heath...he mumbles too much...anyway...i'll let someone else do a review...to tired to write anything else...just woke up...see ya, much luv...

I actually saw the movie with my dad a few months ago [he was the one that wanted to see it]. I didnt think the movie was really good when I first saw it but now that I think back about it, it was actually a decent love story. Nothing great, but good.
Oh and my dad actually cried at the end. [could he actually be gayer than me? Lol, jk]

It makes me smile that your dad cried at the end! I wish my dad had been so moved, but he was mostly just bored out of his mind. Which kind of surprised me b/c he can be sensitive to powerfully emotive movies -- for example, I heard him sniffling at the end of You Can Count On Me. But he's not the most empathic person I've met, and I'm pretty sure he couldn't (or possibly didn't try to) relate to the gay love story.

I think I am all alone... I downloaded it just after it came out... (What, you think I was gonna go with my PARENTS?) And I found it REALLY boring. So much so that I just fast-forwarded through to find the part that was so controversial... which was a disappointment. All in all, really boring.. Just not my thing.

personaly liked the movie alot i found it to be a wonderful story that i CAN put myself and my best friend into that situation about the being homogay but not wanting to be (sadly i was the jake version cuz i would give up everything for him but he wouldnt for me)
i am VERY suprised only one person didnt like it... alot of the homogays (sorry its so much fun to say that) guys i talk to HATE it which i understand not everyone likes the movie its a slower movie you have to get into the story... i didnt cry... i got sad oh god how i got sad lol well when you can see that and you pretty much see yourself dien b4 your friend... yea its a lil painful 2 watch... (doubt he cared EVER but still) he walked out of the theater for like 30 mins cuz he couldnt take it it made him depressed for a few days afterwords... (he doesnt wanna be gay lol) and he had tears at the end... our female friend who went to see it with us... BALLED HER EYES OUT lol and asked me why i wasnt lol i was like simple... i dont cry haha
overall i think it was a wonderus movie but to be seen when your serios and w/o someone being all like... oo they about to fuck right here yup more gay stuff! (god i wanted to kill that girl...) but yea

I loved Brokeback Mountain! I drove 300 miles round-trip to see it on Opening Weekend and took the whole family. One of my daughters took her friend later when it came to a theater that was closer. I took my sister-in-law and saw it again. I now own it and have watched it a couple times at home. Maybe this is why my son tells me I'm "gayer" than he is. LOL Heck, I even bought a button that says "I *heart* Jack and Ennis and wore it to Pride along with my button that says "My son came out of the closet and all I got was this lousy button."

I bought the buttons from a vendor at Portland Pride. You might check websites like www.cafepress.com that sell stuff like that. You can also design your own stuff there.
Thank you so much for all your compliments. Remember though that there are thousands of other moms and dads in PFLAG just like me who are supportive, encouraging, and working for your rights everyday. The best thing you can do for your parents is tell them about PFLAG!

It's an '18' in Ireland I was like WTF!!
Anyway, I friggin love this film, it's one of the best I've seen in years. The storyline is so intricately put together, and it is beautifully acted (Jake is hot!!) (lol) and filmed, and the backdrop of the mountain just makes it even more worth it!! Well done to everyone involved in the making of this epic!
