So, I just came out to my parents. They weren't angry or upset or anything like that, but they weren't terribly enthusiastic either. My dad had a similar experience with his brother, and he says he is reminiscing about then. I asked him what he was feeling, but he said he hadn't clarified his feeling into words yet and needed some more time to think. My mom said the same thing, so I asked them if they wanted some time alone to think about it and they said yes. I told them that I would be there to answer any questions they might have. And that was just a few minutes ago. At least they didn't throw me out of the house?

Well done, the worst is over now. If you want to understand what your parents are feeling take a look at

It helped me understand my inner turmoil when my son came out to me a few months ago.
I don't think you can hope that your parents will be enthusiastic, especially at first when the bomb lands right on their heads but at least they are open to think about it and talk to you.

Communication is the key in all this. If your parents don't bring it up within the next few days / week you might need to bring it up yourself. I know in my case I waited for my son to say something, he waited for me to say something and two weeks dragged by before I had the nerve and courage to talk to him about it. It was a huge relief for us both.

Keep up the good work, you are on the right tracks
