For those who celebrate Christmas, when do you or your family put the decorations up and when do they get taken down again?

If I had my way the decorations would go up about a week before Christmas and come down a couple of days after Christmas. If Markie had his way the decorations would be up by mid-November, though he agrees with taking them down straight after Christmas.

So we have compromised and they go up the first weekend of December. It actually works out well because there is a regular vintage radio collectors event on the first Sunday of December every year which I attend, leaving him to do the decorations.

Urm it varies in my family - basically whenever we can be bothered to take the christmas tree down from the attic. Usually after 1st of December though.

Usually the first week in December and then after New year's day but before the 6th (12th night).

We bought most of ours new this year. We had used the previous ones for a few years so gave most of them away on Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/) before we moved house.

The tree is artificial (we don't like the idea of cutting down a good healthy tree just to decorate the house for a month). It's 7 feet (about 2.1 metres) tall. We have gone for silver decorations and blue LED lights (see photo).

We also have lights outside and some other houses down the road are decorated. It looks really nice. I couldn't get decent photos though as it needs a long exposure and I couldn't hold the camera still enough. I'll try again another evening with the tripod.

I'm Jewish, but my partner is not, so we have a tree/branch. He is obsessive; it goes up 2 days before and comes down one day after

My family has used the same artificial tree for the past.....14 years? and it still looks brand new! Even survived when my house burnt down lol. Its from B&Q, obviously good for its money.

I am BAD and put up two cut fresh Christmas trees! I've been thinking of doing one artificial but I just like the smell and Oregon is the state that produces the most Christmas trees. That makes me feel a little not so evil. One I decorate completely in Disney ornaments. The other has my other special ornaments. I force myself to wait for decorating until the day after Thanksgiving. I wait until around Dec. 10th to put up the trees because we keep our house really warm and they dry out too fast. I like to keep them up a few days after Christmas too. The outside of the house is decorated too although its like pulling teeth getting my husband to hang the lights. I actually had to go out and help him this year. :icon_bigg My new purchase this year is a 64 inch snowman purchased at the PFLAG yard sale for $2.00 and I LOVE IT!!!!

One thing I am sure to miss this year, my first year away from home for Christmas. My mom goes insane with Christmas spirit. It drove me insane, but now I realize I am missing it, and I'm sad.

She started the day after Thanksgiving, and we took the trees down on Jan. 1st, and the remaining lights on March 1st.

My mom would have 3 inside trees. one in the den with colored/white lights and tons of ornaments, then one in the dining room, facing the outside window with all white lights and glass ornaments. Then one small one in my room, and I changed my decorations yearly, I did love the fake snow spray stuff, so I used that almost every year.

The back porch would be lit up with lights, the from bushes and tree's, and the candle things in the windows. (and TONS of other little things)

I planned on having lots of things this year with Tyler, but due to me being stuck in bed, and Tyler already to the max, we have a fake wreath on the front door.

Tylers sister, Emily is coming to spend December 9th - Jan 4th with us to give Tyler a break, and keep us company, so she might make it a little more festive around here.

Happy Hanukkah, Markie. I couldn't give you my wishes the proper day, sorry.

Here, if possible... 8th December to 6th January.

Well apparently I'm a miserable old Bah Humbug! If I had my way they would go up one week before Christmas and come down for the New Year. The guys at work made the most of me not being there a few weeks ago and decorated the reception area, computers, the plants, EVERYTHING! After a few muttered Bah Humbugs I let it pass but it all seems a bit too commercial and a far cry from the meaning of Christmas!

See told you I'm just a grump

We usually put the decor up after my birthday (the 11th, next Tuesday :D) and take it down the weekend before me and my sister go to school.

Well - I've put the lights out outside at my new place, and I think they look really nice. I did it a week ago, and had them on at night ever since. I'm thinking this coming weekend I'll buy a tree. I always go with the real deal - there's something about it...

But I haven't decorated inside yet. I'm going to go with a fairly understated theme in terms of tree decorations. I think it will look nice though. I'll see about getting a picture on here when I'm done.

But Paul... You've already got presents wrapped under yours!!!! Holy cow! Good job!

Markie has been buying pressies for the last couple of months (he works in a shop so he's in town a lot), and I've bought some online too. I don't think there's many more to come.

Wow. Nice tree. I love the glow that Christmas tree lights make. It's warm and comforting in some way to me. We can't even decorate in our house :icon_sad:
coz we're moving in like 2 weeks! All we've got is a little white fibreoptic tree in the window.

I'm not sure when exactly my family puts up the tree. Usually, it's whenever we finally get around to it. We've moved from a real to a fake tree a few years ago. The real ones were nice, but the fake one doesn't leave pine needles all over the house.

I didn't go and decorate my dorm room, this year. I'm never that energetic, and we have to take all decorations down before we go home for break, in a week.

^ Yeah, we had a real tree back when I was 9. It was a lot of fun and it smelled nice, but there were pine needles. EVERYWHERE.

My family gets the tree the day after Thanksgiving and we usually keep it until a few days after the New Year's. We usually decorate it the same day we get it, along with the banisters (fake garland and ribbons) and the outside tree lights.

I think ours is around 8 feet tall this year. Has lots of homemade ornaments and bubble lights, and we have a special paper Moravian star that lights up that we put at the top instead of a normal star or angel. It's very nice and pointy, lol. We've had it for years . . . it's probably a family heirloom.

I work at Kirkland's Home... a home decorative store...

It has been Christmas sense at least September. I refuse to help put up and decorate my tree seeing how I have been doing decorating of the Christmas nature for longer then I should have. I do enjoy looking at the decorations though. lol

Usually, my family starts putting up the lights on our house the day after Thanksgiving, and taking them off during mid January. As for a tree, we always get a live one. :] This year however, we aren't going to be home for the Holidays, so theres not much decorating going on.
