View Full Version : Feeling Awkward?

Ok, so I was at the movies tonight with my mother. We were watching a pretty graphic part of a movie with naked women. My mother knows I'm a lesbian but this is still so new to her so I was wondering is she was thinking I was turned on by seeing naked women?
I felt awkward and it bothered me to think she might be wondering if I was attracted to any of the women. I don't understand this. Does anyone else feel this way?
I feel like there is always going to be this awkward tension between me and my parents now that they know.

Um, I saw Brokeback Mountain in the movie theaters with my parents. I'd say it was awkward (but they didn't know . . . and still don't, but not for long).

The same thing happened to me when I went to see Brokeback Mountain with my mum. It was a couple of weeks after I came out to her, so it was still new to her.
And then during the sex scene, I couldn't help bhut think if my mum was thinkin the same as ur, if I was turned on. It was so awkward that neither of us have ever mentioned it.
I feel like there is always going to be this awkward tension between me and my parents now that they know.
Again, exactly the same thing is happening to me, my parents can't even talk about it, or even say 'gay' because its just too awkward.
But I think its my fault that it's so awkward between us all. I'm not that comfartable with beng gay myself, so of course its going to cause problems if even I find it hard to talk about.

I think watching ANY sex scene while sitting next you one of your parents would be awkward!

Oh yes I hate watching movies with my parents!! Sex scene + parents = awkward for everyone I think. Probably for the parents too  I'm glad I never had to see a gay sex scene with my mom for instance

I would wholeheartedly agree that watching a sex scene with parents would definitely be awkward. But I wasn't watching a sex scene, it was just naked women in a strip club entertaining men.
But I still wondered if it made my mother uncomfortable to think I might be looking at the women. Oh well. Whatever.

Haha you get Nip Tuck in the UK?, well its this show about plastic surgeons ands theres heaps of sex scenes + they're really sudden and kinda graphic, like one episode where two people were casually talking, then it cuts to a pretty graphic gay sex scene DX, good thing my mother didnt know i was gay or it would have made it 100 times worse, knowing that one day i would do something similar.

I just liek prrtend to look away though my other eye cant help staring at the screen Heh heh, that was quite funny... I too have this wandering eye problem. I feel really awkward in any theator looking at it simply because im worried a class mate might rat me out for looking at two guys, at school, and it would turn into a funny storie id have to go along with and nevver be able to live down. every one knows im gay but it still feels awkward when my friends go... "hey... Azrael? do u remeber that time that one movie had those two guys in the..." :help: "shut up... :icon_redf "

OMG yes I completely know what you mean. I got two of those "awkward" shows for christmas Nip/Tuck and HBO's Oz. When I watch it I have to have the volume down and subtitles or have headphones on and change it when someone comes in b/c there is always bound to be a random and LOUD sex scene or random yelling and swearing in both of those shows.

yeah, i feel this. i'd say i've watched enough straight sex scenes with my parents that it's not too bad. but, having recently come out to them, it is much more awkward when i wonder if they're thinking "oh, she's attracted to the girl ". but i guess this will pass after a while.

I actually don't really find it awkward unless it's quite explicit. But then again, I've always been really open with my parents, and if my mum wonders if I find something attractive she asks me (which can be a good thing or a bad thing).
