Decided I might start this alternate to the 'What Does Your Desktop Look Like?' (http://www.emptyclosets.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2932) thread.

Simply post a picture of your desk. xD

Mine, right now... well, I don't have a camera at the moment, buuuuuuuuut just picture some chubby guy's knees with a duvet over them. ;) I'm using my laptop.

Dude, duel-monitors? What are you, some sort of heavy-duty games programmer? ;)

That image has been in my gallery for a while now. It's totally clean, now, though. Anyway, that's my desk at school in the Dallas area. When I'm at home in Houston (like right now) I usually just use my laptop on my lap.

XD Nice. [imagines chubby knees with laptop on top]

Lol I do a lot of computer work (website management, graphic design, etc) but the only reason I have both my monitors is 'cause my original monitor (the left one) has a few dead pixels on it and Samsung are replacing it. For some reason I got the new one today and the old one will be picked up like next week.. (!) Two 22" monitors is just plain insane though.

:P sdc91 my desk used to be as messy as that once.

Hehe they don't ^^ it really didn't take very long for me to get used to them being there. Now the Rambo doll, on the other hand, is VERY distracting! lol :P

This is our home-office, where I do a lot of my work.

I turned the monitor off for the second one as it seemed to make the rest too dark.

Web browsing and email etc is usually done downstairs with the laptop.

Two PCs, the top is for Markie's weather station and the middle is the main office one. The bottom machine is our server.

Yep, it's Windows XP, because some of the software we use on it doesn't have viable Linux equivalents and doesn't work with Wine. It'll probably be upgraded to Vista Business soon as it is due for a format-and-reinstall, though I would need to buy it more RAM.

Whats the specs for them?

The two PCs are both 3.4GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM. The weather station one has an 80GB HDD and the office one 160GB. The office one also has a dual layer DVD-RW drive and a memory card reader, whereas the weather one just has a DVD-ROM.

The office one is a Dell Precision Workstation 380, the weather one and the server are built-to-order boxes from Broadberry.

The server is 2.8GHz Xeon with 2GB of RAM and two 500GB hard disks in RAID1 (mirrored) with backup to a DLT tape drive. It runs Windows Server 2003, Backup Exec, Apache, MySQL, PHP and a few other bits and pieces.

I'm too ashamed of my desk atm.
I'm at my parents house and my dad doesn't let me use his other table in his office; not gonna use the dinner table so I made a 'desk' with pieces of wood I managed to find and put together...

Well - my desk is now my lap...

The old desktop is being retired as soon as I am sure there is nothing else I need from it anymore (given that I run my business largely on my PC, I have to be certain).

Then the old (bulky) computer desk will go - and be replaced by a much slimmer one - which, when I use it, will just have the laptop on a stand with a wireless keyboard and mouse (but I'll still probably do a lot of my "fun" stuff just on my lap. The desk will mainly just be for when I need the numeric keyboard for data input.

For running vista you'll definitely need 4GB to be running smoothly. I've been running vista home premium for about six months now with 2GB (DDR2-800) and it wasn't until I put another 2GB in my computer that Vista was behaving how I wanted it to.
Also it may pay to get a dual/tri/quad-core processor.
And then there's the issue of needing to upgrade your graphics card if you wish to run Aero..

^_^ So personally I reckon you should stick with XP.. Saves a lot of costs and your PCs will run better too. XP out performs vista around 2:1 according to CNET.

But with horrible value for money. x_X I was GOING to get an iMac for my new PC but I got for $1900 what would cost me over $3000 for an iMac. And that was only the 20" variant.

My desk is somewhat untidy and you can't really see it but I'm still using my world of warcraft keypad thingo, even though I'm not playing anymore. Oh and my mouse pad is my maths homework book because when I got my new desk I needed a mouse pad and didn't have one lying around. I've kept it though because It has the name/artist/partial lyrics of a every song I here that I like and want, it's very convenient or at least it was because it's entirely covered now -__- anywho here's my pic.

HAHA! NO 3G FOR YOU!

...Don't ask me why I keep saying that.

Anyway Alienware had shown off this AWESOME display at CES. It's the equivalent of having two 24" monitors side by side (imagine my photo but each screen was a bit larger) and the monitor CURVES around! [drools] Imagine having one of those... If you could fit it on your desk of course.
