okay me and my friend got into this discussion about how many bestfriends you can have. He said you can only have one. I disagree, I think you can have more than one bestfriend. I know this is totally random and stupid but it would be great to hear some of your opinions.

Well by definition you can't really have loads of "best" friends, but there is no reason why there must be only one.

I think if you have say 2 or 3 people you regard as best friends, they are probably for different reasons. For example one may be someone you go out with a lot and always have a really great time, and another may be someone you can talk about absolutely anything with. Both important people in your life and both deserving of the title "best friend", but in different ways.

Well, I think you can:)

So...if you think person A as your best friend, it doesn't matter whether person A thinks you as his best friend?? Or does it matter?

I'm not good at whole best friend thing:confused:

I personally think it's a mistake to rate your friends like that. There are several friends that could have a close race for my best friend. It seems unfair that I should single out one friend and give them that title. Your friends don't have a friendship rating attached to them.

I agree that certain friends are good for certain things. (Sorry, that sounded really... idk... narcissistic maybe?) I have a friend who's a good listener and whom I can talk about anything with, and I also have a friend who can always cheer me up and is one of the funniest people I know. While I could choose if forced, I like them both a lot.

I had two. (haha had.)

Me and one are talking and the other... well... he explains a lot about current issues.

ANYHOOOOOO

I called one my best friend and the one I really liked more and connected with better was my best mate.

I got it from an EC guy actually. lol It was weird to say at first but now it is just what I say when I refer to him.

I think it's better to talk about "close" friends and maybe even "really close" friends rather than "best" because to most people, "best" does imply the singular and yet usually friendships don't really work like that. I have a lot of trouble picking a BEST friend but I have nowhere near the trouble picking out my close friends vs. my less close ones.

Persally I have four "best friends", Bec Bob James and one that always changes, so I think you can have more than one and each is good for their own occasion, for instance, Bob is good for when I need to speak to someone, James is good for being able to have fun and Bec is my voice of reason. The fourth one is on the rocks because I have had a falling out with oe of my friends and I think Ben will fill the fourth spot cos of his awesomeness

You can have several bests I suppose, but if you have a ton of friends...it's a bit tough to be on the same level of companionship with everyone you know since there is just not enough hours in a day to do that!

I myself don't use the label "best" since I think it may seem degrading to some, so my friends I consider closest to me are my "close" friends.
