Hi,

One I can wholeheatedly reccommend if you like a good move (whether you're transgendered or not) is "Different for Girls". (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116102/)

Lifted from a review (which had no copyright notice attached) and slighly edited as I don't agree with the way the writer phrased some parts (non-trans people often get things a bit wrong, unfortunately):

DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS is a different kind of contemporary love story. It stars Rupert Graves as Paul Prentice, a 34-year-old locked in the Seventies punk-era of his teenage years, and Steven Mackintosh as the priggish Kim Foyle, who wants to erase from her memory everything that happened before her transition from male to female in 1993.

The film, basically a romantic comedy with a twist, is a uniquely poignant but funny look into the emotional adjustments that a handsome, heterosexual, extroverted male and an attractive, introverted transsexual woman must make in order to have a relationship. That the two, as young boys, were best friends at school 15 years earlier only deepens the elements of curiosity and embarrassment in their accidental reunion and subsequent courtship.

Worlds apart in their attitudes toward life, they no longer appear to have anything in common. However, the physical attraction they feel now is ironically as strong as their childhood bonding.

Taking the best from their differing lifestyles, she teaches him to grow up and he teaches her to have fun...and somewhere along the way they fall in love. But, expect the unexpected.

I love this movie, it's one of the best portrayals of a transsexual woman in any movie I can think of. The private gender-dysphoria specialist psychiatrist I first saw in 2000 is credited as an advisor in the credits list; they went to some trouble to get things right. I could fault a couple of things, but that's being picky; this is, on the whole, a very good and thoroughly enjoyable film.

Every time I re-watch this movie I have to have a box of tissues close at hand as there are a couple of scenes in there which I can closely emotionally relate to.

So, whether you're trans or not; this is one movie which is well worth seeking out.

Best regards, Jo

Heh; Rocky Horror Picture Show's a great movie; I've seen it countless times - but that's transvestism, not transsexualism - there's a big difference; the difference between men and women...

I really liked My Vie En Rose (http://imdb.com/title/tt0119590/). And Transamerica (http://imdb.com/title/tt0407265/).

And on The Education of Max Bickford (http://imdb.com/title/tt0285356/), an excellent TV show that was cancelled after only one season, there was what I thought was a really good portrayal of a MtF transsexual, portrayed by Helen Shaver.

What I'd really like to see is a trans actor actually portraying a trans character.
