I used to like rap a lot, but my friends converted me to rock and roll, and I'm not looking back. As for sub-genres, I like some metal, some alternative, and a bunch of other stuff. The only sub-genre of rock that I really don't like is southern rock.

A whole bunch, metal, glam rock/hair metal, 80s pop/rock/dance, electronic (really into Daft Punk), speed metal, thrash metal, power metal, punk, punk rock, rock, hard rock, dance. I think I covered it all.

Wow I didn't know so many people liked punk, metal and rock. Does anybody like Tool. I like ska as well and Johnny Cash.

Pop mostly, and dance (very little techno though, I prefer stuff with lyrics). I like Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden, Amanda Marshall etc, but I guess they're classed as pop. However, most of the Pop I listen to is Japanese or Korean, and a little bit of Mandarin, and a little bit of Turkish. I have I think... one Swedish song, but just because I haven't really found any others. Pop dominates my mp3 player. And a very small bit of stuff that's more rock-ish for when I'm in emo mode. >.>

A lot of people here already know this, but the band I listen to most is...

...RAMMSTEIN

And this is the video of one of my favorite songs of their's, Mann Gegen Mann, with English subtitles.

l0sfLHJZZIo

The song doesn't sound nearly as good as it should, because the bass is always really crappy in Youtube videos.

12th Jan 2008, 01:32 AM
The quick answer: Indie music (except, that doesn't really explain it)

The long answer: Alt-rock, post-punk, dance-punk, twee, folk (traditional folk and some experimental), down-tempo electronica, pop, post-rock, whatever the hell Sufjan Stevens is...

Hmm...that sounds a lot more pretentious than I first realized.

I like quite a wide range of stuff. My normal answer is "anything from The Carpenters to Meat Loaf" which covers most of the range. It is mostly stuff up to the 80s, a lot of newer stuff doesn't interest me so much. It is also more pop than rock, including quite a lot of cheesy pop.

Naming some artists as random examples:

S Club 7
Steps
Abba
A*Teens
Carpenters
Elton John
Meat Loaf
Blondie
Bonnie Tyler
Gilbert and Sullivan
Tom Robinson
Pet Shop Boys
Take That
Beautiful South
Joshua Kadison
Kirsty MacColl
Kylie
Seekers
Simon and Garfunkek
Robbie Williams
Sparks

Primarily, industrial metal, industrial rock, industrial techno, thrash metal, sweedish death metal, SOME black metal, some grunge, some techno, and a ton of random J-Pop/J-Rock. As far as specific bands? In no particular order:

Fear Factory
Lamb of God
Rammstein
Ministry
Arch Enemy
Soilwork
KMFDM
Nine Inch Nails (his older stuff)
Skinny Puppy
Rob/White Zombie
Manson
Orbital
Daft Punk
Prodigy
Green River
Nirvana
The Melvins
STP
Sound Garden
Alice In Chains
The Union Underground
The Velvet Underground
Static X
Rage Against the Machine
um
Christian Death
Cradle of Filth
Emperor
Do As Infinity
Megumi Hayashibara
Maaya Sakamoto
Zwei
um
Hip Tanaka? lol okay now I'm really reaching. Well, that was a pretty funny order. I guarantee you, that's the only time you're ever going to see Emperor and Do As Infinity listed next to each other! Hahaha!

Oh, bonus points for those who can identify who Hip Tanaka is without searching for him! Hehe!

Basically, the main artists are...

Pop: Madonna & Kylie Minogue (though I've kinda outgrown their current catalog...), Seal, some Shakira, (and ABBA, which were my first big favorite artist, but I barely listen to them anymore)
Electronic: Daft Punk, Imogen Heap (not really electronic, but w/e), Chromeo
Alternative/Rock: Shiny Toy Guns (again, not really alt, but it's the best category for it), Angels & Airwaves, Snow Patrol
Hip-Hop/Rap: Kanye West, random other stuff like francophone Québec rap :P

Plus a whole lot of this...
The quick answer: Indie music (except, that doesn't really explain it)

The long answer: Alt-rock, post-punk, dance-punk, twee, folk (traditional folk and some experimental), down-tempo electronica, pop, post-rock...
like Rilo Kiley, Stars, Band of Horses, Metric, Architecture In Helsinki, etc.

Japanese(like songs from anime soundtracks)

My favorite is:

Soaring high in the sky,
He may be small but only in size.
AstroBoy, AstroBoy,
He is brave and gentle and wise!

Stronger Than all the rest,
this mighty robot will pass the test,
Oh villans fear him, so we cheer him,
The amazing AstroBoy!

When you need someone strong,
Our robot friend will never be long.
AstroBoy, AstroBoy,
He will try to right any wrong!

When there's danger near by,
No matter who, what, where, when or why.
He'll defend us, he'll defend us,
The amazing AstroBoy!

I like gothic and doom metal with female vocals, bands: Tristania or the early works of Theatre Of Tragedy -both norwegian-. Their music is just beautiful, it has the power of metal, the beauty of classic music and the passion of opera.
Another band I like a lot is Nightwish, power symphonic metal with emotional lyrics and a perfect singer... you should give them a try, really ;)

Ska, punk, some rock (depends) , and classical- not Mozart and composers like that, but orchestra string tributes to contemporary bands.

i would definetly agree to that. i like singers who are rather versitle in music and don't narrow themselves to one genre. like

Madonna with "argentina"

Beyonce "a woman like me"

Christina Augilera "Hurt"

Jessica Simpson "Underneath"(people say i sound like her when i am singing which is very disterbing >.<)

or even um........Britney Spears "Touch of my Hand"(*hug*)
