I just saw a huge billboard on the side of a shop in my town. It said, and I believe this is verbatim:

"SO SOME PEOPLE ARE GAY. GET OVER IT." And that was pretty much it.

Haha well Oxford sounds like quite a prim and tidy town. :) Middlesbrough isn't, so much. Y'know what student accomodation is like? Just kinda organised chaos, all a bit grimy, etc? Middlesbrough is that on a much bigger scale.

where abouts in boro is this James? Anywhere near the town centre? One would like to visit this on their lunch break for shits and giggles - lol.

Y'know the bike shop opposite Doc Browns, near Cineworld? It's on one of them.

Yeah, that was it! Although mine was just the bit on the left. Didn't see the stonewall logo, it's really small.

That's pretty awesome.

I saw a PFLAG billboard in Dallas on I-35E South. Just thought Becky might like to know. Although it's gone now and replaced with an ad for Charter Telecommunications. :/

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a gay billboard anywhere near where I live. Maybe someday.

Today an adminstrator from my college gave us a lecture on proper and appropriate things to post on Facebook and Myspace (b/c apparently its a problem here), and he showed us a picture of this...

http://www.rainbowpuke.com/pics/bwaains-rainbowpuke.jpg

(actually it was a clown puking a rainbow into a toilet, but you get the idea)

Then he says, "I'm not sure why this is offensive and I have no idea what its supposed to mean?" The funny part is that most people at my school believe he is gay so of course the whole room burst out laughing.

A clear, bold message is being sent out by Stonewall over the next fortnight in a nationwide billboard campaign: ‘Some people are gay. Get over it!’

Six hundred billboard panels will depict this legend in giant, tabloid-style capital letters, on a bright red background at sights in England, Scotland and Wales.

The billboard advertising panels, kindly donated by Titan Outdoor Advertising Ltd, continue Stonewall’s simple, striking poster campaign which began in schools in November 2007.

The uncompromising statement and powerful design were developed in collaboration with 150 secondary school pupils and teachers for Stonewall. They were originally launched by Dr Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman as part of Stonewall’s Education for All campaign to tackle homophobic bullying in schools.

The posters, stickers and postcards, distributed to all 5,000 secondary schools across England, were so well-received by pupils and teachers that the message has gone beyond the school gates.

Ben Summerskill, Stonewall Chief Executive, says: ‘Homophobia is almost endemic in our schools and blights the lives of people throughout society. It makes sense that this zero-tolerance message should be extended to the wider public. Across urban and rural Britain, this plain-speaking slogan will remind people that discrimination against gay men and lesbians is no longer acceptable.’

The posters will appear on billboards for two weeks, from Monday 11 February 2008.

That's awesome. I really wish that they would implicate this in America.

I wonder if my school's GSA can print out copies of this and put them around the campus. I might have to send in an anonymous suggestion.

My PFLAG chapter researched doing a billboard. Many have done it. They usually say:

Someone you know and love is gay!
Hate hurts.
Safe Schools.
Unconditional Love.
People don't get fired for being straight. (promoting advocacy)
People don't get assaulted for being straight.
Be careful who you hate, it could be someone you love.
Hate speech hurts our gay children.
Its not a choice, its okay to be gay.
Our gay children enrich our lives.
You always have a home in PFLAG.

We chose to do a movie theater ad. It said "Do you know someone who is gay? We do!"

I think adverts are a great way to go!
I hope I see this gay advert somewhere.
I think the more people see 'It's okay to be gay' in adverts and whatever, the more easy it will be to educate people away from hate.

Erm, y'know the Crown on Linthorpe? The road that's crossing Linthorpe there is Borough Road, and yeah, it's just down there. It's not on the Crown side, though, you've got to be heading away from it, if you know what I mean.

Ah, never mind, haha! Either way, the Cineworld/Doc Browns one is fine. :)
