My 15 year old son just told me that he is gay and I want to support him. He asked me to check out this site and see if it was all right for him to join. I just want a safe place for him to go and be who he is.
A loving Mom

first off, welcome to EC.
secondly, everyone here will try and help as much as they can.
thirdly, i think this place would be a good place for him to visit. he can talk with other teenagers (and older and more experienced people) about any problems, questions, concerns....or just to chat. we do have moderators and administrators to make sure nothing is inappropriate.
fourthly, we do not judge. we would really appreciate meeting him.

If only more parents could exhibit such an attitude when it comes to parenting :)
I would definitely recommends this forum for your son. It's helped countless people and has a lot to offer. It's a safe place to chat, and you don't have a thing to worry about. Moderators are on their toes looking out for stuff that doesn't belong.

Don't worry.
As a Walrus I keep this place pretty safe.
Xept from zombies...Which isn't my fault!
Seriously though, your son could be in a worst spot then this place. Be happy that he's found one of the most supportive online gay communities EVER in the history of my 18 years of life.

Hey. :). Definately have your son create an account here. I found this site like 1 month ago and it has helped me so much it isn't even funny. It's helped me with so many things that I have had going on and it's so awesome to see other people that are just like you. I've never met anyone close to like me but here its so much different. Anyways, its a great site :)

Hi DarkRavenVT,
I'm a moderator and a Mom. I'm also President of my local PFLAG Chapter. (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) This is a great place for your son. It is meant for kids ages 13 years and older. We have people in different time zones moderating the boards to make sure it stays safe. It would be great if you could stick around too. Also, if you haven't already, please check out PFLAG (www.pflag.org) for a group near you. PFLAG is a wonderful organization that supports, educates, and advocates on behalf of our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender children. You are already an accepting mother but we could sure use more people like you in PFLAG. Many come to us totally distraught and its great for them to see parents who love and accept their kids the way they are. Thank you for coming here and checking the place out for your son. You guys obviously have a wonderful and trusting relationship!!!

I'm always happy to see a mother who is happy for her son, and just wants to protect him regardless of his sexuality. :) You're most definitely welcome, and of course so is your son.

Hi darkravenvt, Welcome to EC! :)
We love accepting parents here. Becky has already welcomed you above. Louise is also the mum of a gay son, who came here on her son's recommendation when she was looking for answers. If you are unsure about things they would be good people to ask.

Hi, I introduced myself to you in a PM but :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: anyway. You will see that this is the best site ever for young people trying to come to terms with their sexuality.
I don't know if you have wandered round the site much yet but here is almost no foul language, nothihng rude, nothing explicit, Paul is extremely vigilant that no 'older' person comes preying here. The kids here are safe and free to express themselves without judgment or fear.
There are moderators here in the forum and in the chat and enough 'adults' here that if anything should escape the moderators or Paul (highly unlikely) notice would be drawn to any innapropriate behaviour almost straight away.
I am glad you are planning to hang around, a few more mums here is no bad thing
