So for my PhD I am doing Human Factors research, and I have been doing interviews with industrial people to collect data , which I recorded.

Anyway hearing myself on the playback freaks me out, I sound higher than I do in my head, and well I sound "gay" I have that accent some gay guys get, kinda a Northern England gay accent. (Ok I am a Scot but I grew up in the North) I hate it

Yes, I did mention it on another post earlier that I sound so camp, high pitched when I hear my voice.
    Yuk

Definitely! I almost don't recognize my own voice unless I know it's something I've recorded. It's weird.

Even weirder, when I sing and record it, it sounds exactly like I expect it to. It's only my speaking voice that sounds different to me.

It used to alot more than it does now, though it still annoys me a bit because I sound even duller than I think I already do....

I was surprised by my voice in the voice recording thread. But in a good way. It sounded... less pretentious than I fear it does.

I think Alan Carr is brilliant, such a funny and witty person

Ugh! Yes! In my head, my voice sounds deeper.

Sometimes. I can tolerate it to some degree (since I know it'll deepen when I get on T), but there are days when I've been taken off guard by hearing just how high it sounds (singing, for instance...)

A little bit, ya, because I still have a little bit of trouble with how soft and unclear my voice sounds.

My voice is perhaps a little bit deeper in my head but not too much. It's my accent that really bothers me on recordings, but it's only a fraction of how annoying it was when I was younger.

    Nah, not really.

I do play-by-play for my university's hockey team from time to time, so I've pretty much gotten used to the sound of my voice on a recording.

I have been told my voice is kind of deep.

Me too. I swear some of the social anxiety symptoms I experience these days are remnants of when I stopped talking after people made fun of my voice in primary school...

I swear I hate my voice when I hear it recorded. It's totally opposite then how I hear it.

Holy shit, yes. My voice is naturally pretty deep, which is good for me. It's always been deep, even when I was a kid. But the thing that bothers me is that when I pronounce a short "A", it sounds awkwardly nasal-y compared to the rest of my speech. Sometimes I can hear the West Virginia in my voice, too.

I heard myself for the first time on a recording since before puberty this year because I was required to record myself for a carnegie hall audition and my voice... is so "gay" its not a bad thing, but I really am seriously curious about the science behind people with "gay" accents and what not o.o I know for sure im not making conscious effort to talk like that... Among black guys that I know, I definitely sound like a gay, white male xD My feminine singing voice doesnt help, but i quite like my singing voice, so thats another story.

Idk how I feel about my voice in terms of liking it now :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Recording wise... just very stereotypical
