Yeah, whatever, stereotypes are bad. But this is important information to know for me, because of my parents. The first recording is of my "normal" voice. This is the voice that I use when I'm talking to my friends. ####### | Voice message This second recording is the voice I use around my parents and their acquaintances. (I hiccuped on the word continent so it sounds weird.) ####### | Voice message So, basically, my question is, would an average heterosexual person peg my voice as gay? ---------- Post added 4th Jul 2013 at 03:50 PM ---------- By the way, my parents are very homophobic. So I don't want them knowing I'm gay.
You realize you're asking a bunch of LGBT folk to judge as if they were an average heterosexual person, right? That said, I don't know if you sound "stereotypically gay". I'd be more inclined to say you sound far younger than 17, if anything.
No, I don't really get a read on you with the first voice, but that's because your voice sounds like a much younger person's voice. But, you have to realize, I am not seeing you in person. If you looked obviously like you're nearly an adult, tall, or strong, etc., and I didn't mistake you for a 14 year-old, I definitely would get a read. Wow... I'm just so sorry that you have to affect a lower voice in order to be safe around your parents. That must be extremely hard.
#1 sounds more feminine. However, you will draw more attention to yourself using a phony voice than your natural voice. I only deepen my voice on the phone so I don't get "Yes, ma'am".
Hard to judge from a disembodied voice. And I know plenty of big nelly bottoms with deep, very masculine voices so the whole "gay voice' thing is sort of BS. That said, with either of your voice recordings, there are nuances that would make me wonder. The bottom line is... you can't hide who you are. And usually, the more you attempt to hide it, the more obvious you are. Just be who you are.
No, born and raised in the United States. Though my microphone's low quality may have something to do with it.
