Hi Guys, just a friendly warning about a security risk!

Did you know that someone could copy the Url on your picture & do a Google Image Search & if you are using the same image on another site, for example a Dating Site, then they will be able to find you & the other site may have personal details on it like your full name etc!

Please be safe & don't use the image you use of yourself on any other sites, just keep it for the EC site

I hope I haven't alarmed anyone, I just want people to be safe

It's important to know though Dude, I am glad I never uploaded my photo on EC & used the same photo on another website, the internet is a good thing, but it also has it's darkside!

Keeping yourself safe is what is important, I am so glad a friend told me about this, I didn't even know you could Google a Image:eek:

Not to be a creeper, but that's what I did with your image when I didn't know who that guy was. He looked familiar (sister is crazy for One Direction) so I copied and pasted your image into Google Image search and, voila, Niall Horan. (Apparently I am also not a good gay guy 'cause I couldn't recognize him.)

    I swear I am NOT a stalker .

Two of my pictures are also on my facebook. So I URL googled them both, and neither of them came up with any results?

But cheers for the warning anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This has always been the way since you could search by image...

Also, wouldn't people be more worried about people they know finding out they're on EC than the other way around? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

MichaelB , put the URL into google images then when no results show up click 'search by image'

Maybe Facebook have put something in place to stop people doing this, that would be cool

Try the "Drag and Drop" method. Open two screens. On one, go to Google and click on images. On the other (make sure you can see the Google search bar on the other screen), find the picture you want and click on it and drag it to the other window (drop the image directly on the Google Image search bar. Google will search the web for the same or similar picture. I tried it with a friend's facebook and it lead me to their old Myspace. So this method might work better.

I just tried it with some EC album photos but it doesn't work with those. Since the photos on one's profile are only visible for EC members, Google can't see them and thinks the link is invalid.

Avatars are public so they can be searched.

I searched my last.fm avatar and it didn't link to my Facebook profile (and yet if you search my full name, it does exactly that); it simply linked to webpages on last.fm's site.

And under 'similar images', this was one of them:

I DON'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THAT. Thank god. Or at least I hope.

(it came up with plenty of women too, so I'm doubting the accuracy of that particular feature)

I put a friends picture in that he uses on one particular site & did a Google Image Search & it brought him up on another site that he is using the same image for, so I don't know how it works, unless it goes on picture size as well

You can go here (note: link will only work properly if you're logged in to Facebook), under "privacy settings", and check or uncheck a box to allow search engines to index your timeline. It's unchecked by default, I believe, which means that Google can't actually find any of your pictures unless you tell it to.

    Yeah, great warning.

Personally, my online life doesn't track back to my (rather less interesting) real life. I have pictures on other sites, and if I'm really honest, people who know me can usually tell I'm the same person, but I'm not identifiable as a real person with a real life address.

Not everyone knows who One Direction are, perhaps I should change it to Justin Bieber

I haven't taken a photo of myself (nor allowed anyone to take mine) outside of governmental stuff (passport, insurance, etc) for the last maybe...7-8 years, so it's safe to say that nothing is out on the Internet about me, and I intend to keep it that way for now. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
