Greetings folks, I'll be at my first Meetup in a couple of hours, it's an art gallery set up for people who are interested in drawing from a live female nude model. It'll cost 10 bucks plus my own paper and drawing supplies. What's cool is that I can check out each member and see what other Meetups they are interested in. From those, it turns out there are a couple of gay guys who will be there too. If my drawings are any good, I'll be sure to post them eventually. I'll let you know how it turns out. Has anyone else here used Meetup to go to things? Cheers!
I have used meet ups to find other start up business like my own and been very happy FYI Both Obama and Hillary used meet up in 2008 when they started their campaigns for president
I remember looking into the possibility not that long ago (that is, since joining EC). My hope was to find a local LGBT group. Unfortunately, the only group would require me to become a lesbian, first. I also took a hard look at general groups. But there was nothing of any interest in the area. Well, there was one group that really did interest me. Unfortunately that group is closed to new members.
Just came back...it was a lot of fun, and it shows that I haven't drawn from a live model since 1995... My drawings aren't that bad, however some of them look decidedly masculine...:rolle:...I did my best, and looking to do it again! Yes, a male model will be next on the menu, I hope. There she was, a totally nude young woman, quite pretty....and I felt absolutely nothing at all...yes, I am gay.
Meetups are truly a wild card. They can be fun, "interesting," or just quirky. Greatwhale, was it pencil or some other medium? I take it you knew how to draw prior to this, or it would have been kind of foreboding. I took a drawing class in college, and it focused on objects, though there was a nude model drawing class next door. Ours was concerned with shape, shade, and gradation. The teacher was an ex-hippie, or a diluted one. The way some hippies have gone establishment, THAT one can be a phase!
It was charcoal on newsprint, I made 20 drawings...some are so bad I want to burn them (my art teacher from years ago said to never do that!) but some are actually not bad. Of course, like most beginners, I can't quickly draw hands and feet, so I focused on the body and face...photos to follow soon!
Greetings folks, Here are some of the drawings I made during the meetup (ok with the admins) There is a progression, the early drawings are when she posed for only 10 minutes, which was a good way to warm up, then she posed for longer. Like all rank amateurs, I couldn't draw the hands and feet with any detail, as for the faces, well it looks like a different model each time It was great fun and a good way to get out of the house, I highly recommend it as a way to do something that makes you forget the time passing...
Thanks! The title of the event was "Traditional Nude Figure Drawing Workshop", so they do look "artsy" in the traditional sense, and I'm not good enough yet to get a little more creative in my drawings, LOL!
All the drawings are good. Charcoal is not easy to handle. I like the last one the best. You capture the foreshortened view of the lower leg well. It looks like it's something you enjoy.
Thanks for noticing the foreshortened lower leg, I worked hard on that! I love charcoal for the contrast and immediacy.
