Have you ever considered the possibility of a same-sex couple producing their own biological children? A child that is literally a genetic product of BOTH of them. For example, one man provides the egg and another man provides the sperm. As absurd as that might sound, scientists have already demonstrated it is possible in mice.

The researchers took skin cells from a mouse and converted them into stem cells. Then they created a functional egg from one of the stem cells. Next they took a stem cell from a different mouse, engineered sperm out of it, and performed in-vitro fertilization. A surrogate mouse was given the fertilized egg and successfully gave birth to a healthy mouse.

The implications of this are huge... it is certainly conceivable that the same thing could be done with humans in the coming decades. Just imagine how intense the ethical debate will be over something like this. The religious right already yells at us for our "unnatural" ways, but just imagine how unnatural they would find this!

So here's the question: If technology allows it, would you use this method to have a baby with your same-sex partner in the future?

Adoption would still be my #1 choice
I think I would do something good for this world.

I would probably still go with adoption. I always wanted an adopted child.

I think it will be well after I'm dead, but I think I would do it, if possible.

Honestly, I'd probably still adopt, if who I was with wanted kids.

There's too many kids on the planet who don't have families/homes who need them to bring in another one.

The biggest let down from all this was that I could never have a child that was truly mine. If this could be solved. I would deff don it.

For sure, I'd at least like a child with both my future partner's and my own genetic code. It would be so awesome but I doubt such a thing could be done for humans anytime soon. recall another test done with mouse or rats using stem cells to regrow teeth, it was such but I haven't heard of anything much about it since.

I would! This would solve my moms dilemma of wanting grandchildren biologically from me! But to be honest I dont think this would actually come into play for anytime soon :frowning2:

while the idea is really good sounding and if i was alive by then. Might thought of doing it with my partner. I still think i would choose adoption.

Even when I was little, long before I realized that there would be boundaries when it comes to having bio kids, I said I would adopt. One of my best friends is adopted, and I have thought it was the best thing since canned bread ever since I learned about she had come to be with her family. At this point, I still am not sure if I even want kids, but I've got ten years still to figure it out, so there's no rush:slight_smile:

I considered the possibility long ago. If I do one day desire to have kids I will consider it if it is indeed an option at that time and my partner is ok with it.

I would love to do this. Sorry if that seems selfish next to everybody saying they would do something good for the world by adopting, but it's one of my dreams to have a biological child and if the option was open to do that with a loving partner rather than a random donor then I think I'd have to go for it.

I certainly wouldnt be an early adopter of the technology (excuse the unintentional pun lol).. I mean I'd wait 20 years at least after the first one. Complications can take literally a lifetime to manifest.

That said, I believe we are overpopulated as it is, and there are already starving/hurting children in the world that need to be loved.

As cool as that is, I'd rather go with adoption if I still want to have kids.
