I am turning 21 on Sunday, and I don't know what I want to do for my birthday.

I have never drank any alcohol in my life (despite the litres of pure ethanol I use in the lab on a weekly basis) and I don't plan on drinking for my 21st either.

One of my friends is turning 21 next week. He used to drink, never heavily, but has given it up. He's going to hang with his friends, go out for dinner, maybe to the beach or park or something. In spite of what society teaches you, there's no reason to drink yourself crazy because tradition or your friends demand it. Do something that *you* want to do

Isn't the drinking age 18 in Saskatchewan, anyway, or is that just in AB?

I would say rage balls but you said you don't want to drink on your birthday...so that's out. Do whatever seems fun to you. Indulge a little. I would say YOLO but Carpe Diem sounds much better

I was in a similar situation, as it's my 21st early September. I figured that since 21 isn't actually a big deal anymore in the UK (various laws have been reduced 18), it's more for tradition's sake that it's still a big event; and probably to a lesser extent that the UK will celebrate it because the USA does?

Regardless, I've always for a long as I can remember, done what I wanted for my birthday parties. This has ranged from: laser quest (10th); paintballing (18th); hide building in the woods (8th); going out for a meal with my family (many years); renting a bouncy castle (20th); fancy dress (19th).

I am also not a (big) drinker, I don't like being drunk so I don't bother. All my parties have been just chilled relaxed social events after a main event like the above. This year I'm finalising plans for renting a canal boat for the day with my closest friends.

To sum up, do what you want. Don't drink unless you want and don't be pressured to do something you don't want to (drink, have an actual party, etc) because it's your day to spend how you like. Those who come along won't care what you are and aren't doing because they should be your friends... and if they do, well, I wouldn't invite them next year!

19 I think, though why that would matter is beyond me, you can easily get someone to pull for you at any party if your under. But yeah, I have refused to drink anything as my own personal private protest; almost 21 years completely sober without a drop! (!)

    Yeah, what you said.

I'm also turning 21 on Sunday and will probably be intoxicated drinking.

    Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to you as well! First person that I know of who is my exact age. I hope you do not go into liver failure!

I'm not sure what you should do, I suggest just doing something that makes you happy. If you have friends you should hang out with them and enjoy yourself.

    Happy birthday.

Nah, I can't drink too much because I have to work on Monday, unfortunately.

Would prefer not to be completely hung over for nine hours.

    Thanks, though.

Well happy birthday to you! And like people have said, its not all about drinking and partying it up. If that's not what you wanna do, then don't do it just because its "what you're supposed to do"

On my 21st, My friends bought me 2 seasons of my favorite show and spent the entire day watching it and talking and hanging. I loved it.

    Again, Happy Birthday

Uh, I don't know if there's anything really special about turning 21, especially if you live in a society where 18-year-olds are treated more like full adults rather than treated like second-class adults. (In the U.S. you need to be 21 to buy alcohol or enter a casino, thanks to Ronald Reagan. You used to even need to be 21 to vote). When I turned 21 I had been studying abroad in Italy for several months by then, and there's no drinking age, so it was just like a regular birthday. But I digress...

Just maybe go out and hang with friends, go to dinner or a movie or something if you don't want to drink. Or else hang at someone's house. Or read a book or watch a movie at home if that's more your thing. Or break out the party hats and cake and have a birthday party the way you used to when you were a kid.

Whatever makes you happy, it's your birthday.

    But um anyway, :birthday:

(I seem to be the only one on here who ever remembers we have that perfectly specific Happy Birthday emoticon with a cake and party hat and everything :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)
