My Poem

Well, I, like other members of EC write poetry. I'm often too shy to share my poetry, but today, I decided "what the heck", so you get to read my poetry. I ask that you be honest.

NOTE: It's free verse so, it doesn't rhyme or have rhythm.

Hiding Behind Masks
No words,
ever created by man,
can describe,
how you feel,
deep down inside.
The way they whisper,
behind your back,
but talk nice to your face,
still spreading poison,
the second you walk away.

Disapproving looks,
all around you,
faces hidden in shadows,
only their eyes,
glaring at you.
You can feel,
the hatred inside of them,
simply because
you might be different.
Why does everyone,
want you to be,
what they want?
Why not let you be,
yourself?

People supposed to love you,
want to change you.
They want you,
to be 'normal'.
They don't even care,
how much that may,
hurt you.
They want you to,
put on the blank,
unsmiling mask
of normality.
They want you to,
live the life,
they have set out,
for you.
But, you can't live that way,
you have to make yourself happy.
It's like a prison,
dress this way,
talk that way,
dream about this,
do this now,
and most importantly,
be how we tell you to be.
They don't care,
if you're happy,
or if you're crying
silent tears.
They only have
their eyes,
on the prize.
