Well, I know a lot of people like to type properly here, which is probably one of the things that has contributed to my staying here so long. I was wondering if there were any abbreviations that don't make you want to rip your eyes out?

Personally, I don't mind (and sometimes use) lol, imo and brb. Anything else, particularly when people include numbers in words (like b4 etc) just makes me die inside. What about you guys?

When people misuse words like than and then, I get a funny feeling in the back of my head. Other than that, nothing else bothers me. I think abbreviations are funny.

I just hate the numbers. That makes no sense to me. ppl who tpye liek dis, really get me. Come on, you went to school and it isn't hard to form a sentence. "lol" "brb" imo" and the like don't bother me.

I'm kind of a grammar nazi...I'm not proud of it

Me using abbreviations depends on the situation. When i'm in the hurry or when in class I use text speak so I could reply faster before I get caught.

I disliked them for a while.
    Now they're fun.

I can deal with pretty much anything abbreviation-wise as long as you use paragraphs when needed.

For the most part I tolerate most abbreviations and I tend to use IMO frequently since it's just so convenient for notifying you aren't implying fact but just your opinion.

If anything the one thing I cannot stand is walls of text. It just causes me to skip the post or to at the least read a few sentences before just giving up.

I somewhat-regularly use LOL/ROFL, IMO, TBH, OMW, WTF, FFS, AFAIK, TL;DR

When I'm intentionally being an Internet dick, I'll throw in YOLO (more often #YOLOSWAG)

    QFT.

(oh, I guess I can add that one onto my list too)

English is not my mother tongue and sometimes I can't even understand when people write using too many abbreviations. I always appreciate decent language.

I used to care but I don't anymore.
The only one I ever use is "lol." Because there's really no grammatical way to express that sentiment without delving into the topic at length.
You can't just say "laughing out loud" because no one says that. "That's hilarious" is OK, but sounds fake to me. I haven't found a good lol substitute yet, I guess.

Bad grammar tends to bother me more than abbreviations, but I appreciate that there's a significant crossover between the two. If I get the feeling that somebody uses text speak because it's the only way they know then it will make my skin crawl. If it's just somebody using a standard internet acronym then it won't bother me. That said, I draw the line beyond acronyms. Abbreviations like "h8" or "u" do not come into my lexicon and nobody using them will be taken seriously by me.

I don't really use abbreviations, so I don't really know many off the top of my head. I sort of glaze over them when I see them, and just keep reading. No harm done.

Btws is the only one I use with any frequency, even if it's very infrequently. I also say it out loud sometimes in conversation, "bee tee dubs". It's probably the most douchebaggiest thing that I ever say.

Grammar gets to me worse than abbreviations do, to be honest. Bad grammar makes me want to cry.

Well, imagine how hard it is for me to understand those abreviations when english is just my second language! It took me a lot of time just to figure out (all by myself hehe) what ''imo'' means. :roflmao:

Even I know the difference between ''than'' and ''then''!
I see a lot of people everywhere that have english as their first language and they just don't know the difference. It makes me sad. :frowning2:
