    For those of you with gaydar I have to ask, how do you know? I'm pretty clueless but maybe it's because I'm fairly closeted?

    When I went away to college I wasn't out to anyone. I meet enough homophobic people that I just didn't feel safe coming out. But one day a girl I barely knew asked if I wanted to go for a walk. I said sure and once we reached a secluded place she told me she was a lesbian and that she had a girlfriend. Since she came out to me I came out to her. She said "I thought you were." I asked her how she could tell and she said, "I don't know, I could just tell." This was so many years ago but I still think of it sometimes and I just wonder, how did she know??? I am very straight in my appearance. Any thoughts?

    I don't know. My gaydar is nonexistent. I only know if someone tells me.

    Shhhhit. I mean, apparently it's in the eyes. A certain look should tip you off.. but I find it impossible to know when you're attracted to masculine men. They're concealing it well and straight men in 2013 don't look much different from out gay men lol.

    Mine seems surprisingly accurate for someone who's been in a straight marriage for 20 years, and my teenage daughter seems to have inherited it. My wife, however, knows several gay men, thinks they are FABULOUS and practically qualifies as a fag hag, but unless they're prancing around in a rainbow jockstrap, she never picks up on it. Or else she assumes guys to be gay who (in my mind) clearly aren't. When I finally come out to her, it's a split decision whether she will completely despise me, or else like me better than she did when she thought I was straight.

    Mine is defective, it goes off on certain guys; then when I ask them they are like "...Im not gay.. Why are you?"

    When they are Gay, and I ask them the same question they say "Look your cute, but no... Just no."

    My gaydar has always been wrong :confused: It only works if it goes like this:

    Me: Hey, that guy over there is kissing another guy.
    Gaydar: I think he's gay.
    Me: I think you're right.

    It's hit or miss for me, but I can identify some of them. I can usually identify the close people, but I have had strong crushes on guys who were either straight or very closeted. I am the semi-quiet guy who likes to observe everyone (someone once said I had a little black book on how to deal with others), so I spend a lot of time thinking how other people interact with each other.

    Also, I know you might think you're straight acting, but you probably do some gender atypical things that give you away to those who are experienced (IMO, other gay people are the most likely ones to pick up on this).

    Is this really a thing? like honestly I don't believe it, how can you tell someone is gay? unless they make it very obvious... If it is real then I definitely don't have it.

    I don't know. Haven't really had any opportunity to use it, and of the view occasions where I thought someone might be gay, well I wasn't in a situation where I could ask him.
