My dad just told me gay men shouldn't become priests because its a big problem that they mess with 15-16 year old boys. Really?
Basically the gay=pedophile misconception -_-. I actually don't think some of the priests involved in many of the scandals were gay. More like sex-hungry and they just used what they could. If he means "mess" in the non sexual way, then that is completely wrong. I think that priests who are gay would know the struggle and would be able to guide through confusion. I think it's ridiculous that people suggest that gay people around 15 or 16 year olds are "spreading homosexuality" or "making them gay". Give me a break.
Yeah, I mean ...he doesn't have anything against gay people, he is really accepting of the community but i guess, he's heard too many stories on thie news like that and is misunderstanding. He says "gay men (priests) shouldn't go around messing with other boys that are gay" I dont think, they are gay either. just because someone does a sexual act ...doesn't make them gay in any way. an act doesn't represent your sexual orientation. Pedophilia does not follow sexual orientation. It is more of a sexual classification of its own. The sexual differences of children are much more murky than those of adults. This is why many pedophiles can find themselves attracted to whatever is available, regardless of sex. Many people believe that girl are the most commonly targeted children by pedophiles, as like most of victims of sexual offense such as rapists, but it is actually boys. As a result of society males have a much lesser tendency to report sexual offenses. When female victims grow up and/or realize what happened, they tend to breakdown and share with family. Male victims tend to suppress the occurrence in shame. This is why a child predator who is stationary( Priest, Teachers, Coaches, etc), and not planning to simply flee right after they have committed their acts, are more likely to target boys rather than girls because they are less likely to tell even when they realize it in the future.
I just think, You can't hold a whole group accountable for such acts. for those who do want to become priests and are gay, i think this makes it harder for them and are more likely to be judged by These occurrences.
It all falls under the stupid stereotype that implicates gay men as pedophiles. Studies have proven that the majority of child molesters and pedophiles are straight.
