Have You ever thought you were done with the past and have something just come into your life and remind you all over again?

That just happened to me.....and it's not helping me

Yeah. My mom's a scrapbooker, big on pictures. Lots of framed portraits around the house. I need only look up.

Oh yeah. Sometimes the past likes to haunt you. It's clever like that!

They remind me of my past. They cling on to some stupid idea of a person who never existed, except in their heads. They make me feel helpless and inadequate.

You were pretty vague, dear. Are you talking about a person or is it something else?

My mom took 150 kabillion pictures when I was a kid as well... But the ones that haunt me are:

-When I was 4 and took my barbies trick-or-treating with me
-Me crying once my dad took my barbies away
    -AWKWARD 90's BOWL CUT
-When I was 7 and smashed my face into my birthday cake
-ALL MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT UNWRAPPING PHOTOS (I had the most weird looks on my face... 0_o)
-Me throwing a tantrum when I was 6 after I got a present I didn't ask for (I was such a primadonna. XD)

Yep. I had a dream involving my ex and her new boyfriend last night and when I woke up I wished I hadn't woken up at all...

My old yearbooks. My parents like to sometimes break them out and look at them. They were so proud back then, and I don't have to heart to tell them that those pictures are some of the worst memories I have so far in my life. It was all before I chose my name. I like to forget it all ever happened.

Story of my life. I thought I could try to move on from the event that triggered my depression and just put it behind me, but a couple of months later I found out that a combination of stress and depression had begun to drastically affect my grades, and I realised that I couldn't be free of the event so easily. It just keeps on coming back to bite me on the ass.

Trauma always has a way of sneaking back up to us whether we want it or not. A picture, a dream, a sound, even a smell can remind of of something insidious from our past. That remembrance can last a lifetime if not properly worked through unfortunately

Usually music triggers past events for me and it's fucking terrible. Especially if it's a song I used to adore and now it's turned into a source of depression.
