Today I received a cheque in the post which had been typed with my first name spelled wrong. Instead of the last letter being an 'n', it was an 'l'. That name does not exist...

Anyway, I am with Barclays. Do you think they will accept my cheque? It will be quite a hassle to ask the company to send me a new cheque. Also I need the money rather soon.

    Thanks,

    Islander

Try and see, but also contact the company because the misspelling may be in their system and will be used again in the future.

I think you might need proof though that it belongs to you..

I've had so many problems, misspelled names, mistaking me as my twin, or mixing us up which is a current issue, they should ALWAYS check that its 100% correct.

And whats more irritating is there has to be a 4 weeks wait for every response I send to the department..

Not sure what country you're in, but in the US, if you deposit it through an ATM, it's highly unlikely anyone will notice, and the check will likely go through fine.

I've had checks paid with the wrong payee, no payee, no signature, no date, and with the written-out and decimal amounts different (not all on the same check, of course!) Banks are incredibly sloppy, and they've cut way back on the people who used to audit and check all the elements of checks being paid.

There isn't much to lose in trying to cash the check, so give it a shot.

I live in England, if that helps. And I'm with Barclays. Don't know how different the situation is to the US though
