    Hey everyone,

so my usual over-the-shoulder bag has started to wear through so I need something new for next semester. I really want a messenger bag since I'm getting ever closer to coming out of the closet, and I've been looking here: EASTPAK Shoulderbag: Senior Midnight | Official Online EASTPAK Shop

But I could do with some of you fabulous people's opinion on colour! I want it to be quite understated, sending off a vibe of "Maybe I'm gay, maybe I'm just stylish" rather than "Hi boys, come home with me" so I'm drawn to the black and blue, but any suggestions of what looks good would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I really like the plaid one. I think out of all of them it has the best "maybe gay maybe just stylish" aspect to it. The light grey one is really nice as well.

Are messenger bags usually seen as gay, though? Curious, not challenging.

I haven't voted yet, but I'd say black for now, Black is always simple and understated. I'm not sure if this bag will help out you though...

I'll get the checked one if I were you, but that's because I normally wear plain shirts. The bag you picked does not look anywhere near gay to me.

I live in east Asia, where every dude has a messenger bag and Korean hair are everywhere, so my view point might be different tho.

I have a blue one, with neon green accents, so you can see it at night. I really like it, and prefer it to a backpack, and I never carry a wallet, so it's a big help. There's a ton of bicycle messengers in the city, so I got this one from a friend, who had an extra. I vote to get one that might actually be used by a messenger, maybe at a bike shop. Then maybe you'll get a date with an actual messenger, who are almost always in really great shape!

    I would go with coal.

Because it isn't quite black so if you tend to wear lots of black it can stand out a bit more, it might seem dull but it really isn't. Due to it's neutral colour you could wear throughout multiple seasons and still look fashionable while also sporting some common style. Many people go for a black bag since black goes with everything, this will set you apart slightly while still in the comfort zone. Besides that I might go for the chequered one. It is a bit more out there and not many aspects of your wardrobe can get away with styling such a large pattern without looking odd.

My work here is done

edit to add stuff below this

Also it depends on what you usually wear. If you wear lots of plain clothing as in with no design or a very small pattern I would suggest the one that is chequered for you. However if you tend to wear more patterns you could opt for a brown or even the denim one. However I am not too fond of denim for anything but pants it could work for you.

Thanks for all the opinions guys! I've really got some thinking to do now...

They're not universally viewed as gay, or just owning one would be a bit out loud and proud for me at this stage in my life. But there is a lot of opinion going around that they're gay because they're basically seen as masculinised handbags, so I feel that by wearing one I might be able to send out a subtle vibe to certain key people without making an outright statement (yet).

I never realized before that these bags were particularly gay, I only discovered this by being with other gay guys who've explained it to me.

I've always liked shoulder bags though...

I like the checkered one. Or the grey one.

I'd never heard that messenger bags are 'gay'?

The blue seems much more 'fun', if that makes sense.

    I hate you for bringing this up. I am trying to keep myself from buying any new bags this year as my one from last year is perfectly fine. I'm just addicted to messenger bags... ;_;

None of them scream "gay" at me. I personally like the Sunday Grey, but you gotta pick which will fit you best. Now, all the messenger bags I have were given to me, but I am kinda fond of the green and black ones I got from my employer...

My messenger bag is black but I might be tempted by the plaid.

    Thank you everyone (*hug*)

The black bag is very "safe" for me, i.e. it's the option I would normally go for in an attempt to not stand out, and after a little longer thinking about it I think that that would defeat the point of me getting this bag. I'd like to be a little more daring, more open, so as nice as it is I think I'll have to pull the black bag out of the running.

Midnight seems to have an overwhelming majority so that's a probable winner, but I'll keep some of the other comments in mind for now since I have a few days left to decide.
