Hey I was wondering if anyone from Melbourne has been to a Minus 18 event and what's it like? I'm thinking about going to the games day next Saturday and I know the point is to meet new people but I don't want to be the loner girl there that doesn't know what's going. Thanks
I can do better than that. I was part of the committee running Minus18 for four years. Feel free to message me with any questions or post them in the thread. The social events are a great way to get to know people. (I ran and organised them for two years.) It's totally fine to show upto them on your own, because you'll get to know people pretty quickly.
It's a Melbourne-based organisation that runs dance parties, social events and workshops for young GLBTI people and their friends.
Do you still run the events? How many people do you think will come to the games day and how old are the people there? I've seen the videos you guys make about the events and it seems like everyone is really fun and outgoing and the thing is I'm the complete opposite.
I don't any more, but Aiden, the guy who's now in charge, is absolutely lovely. Not everyone is super outgoing, plenty of shyer people go to the events and end up befriending people pretty quickly. Usually at social events there's around 25 people, between about 14 and 21. If you come on your own, crew members tend to take you under their wing and introduce you to people. I think you'll have a great time.
..Sounds like something I'd like to attend also. I wasn't even aware of this until now. I guess Melbourne has more charms than I thought.
Thanks Maddy I think I'll go! I might even see people from school because aparently the school club go to minus 18 events together.
