I was gonna do an article for FS about this... as it's already banned in the US and a few other countries... >_< I donated before I came out, and was completely legal, didn't lie on any of the questions, and they're lieing as well. A gay man can legally donate as long as they haven't had sex.

It's not illegal unless you've had sex. So you can be a gay that hasn't had sex and still donate. (I've done it like 4 times now)

I've donated before, but then after I payed attention to the survey questions a bit more, I realized that they were discriminating. Since then I refuse to donate, despite me being a virgin.

Last time they called I told them I was gay and they said "have a nice day" and hung up. So, I'm pretty sure my file has been red flagged anyways :-\

Since it's illegal for a gay man to donate blood, I haven't donate at all.

Not that I don't wanna donate, nor don't want to cover that I'm gay. But last time took blood at doctor, it was like 30ml or so and I became bloodless and went off to a faint in the hallway...

Now that makes me wanna donate 200ml of my blood

I don't want to have to lie about anything - so I'm just not going to donate. If and when they change their stance on this, I'll start to donate blood again.

I want to donate blood. I got a letter from the Give Blood people not too long ago and I still haven't acted on it. Hmmm... now theres something on my to do list.

Although, I am slightly worried I'm going to faint in front of everyone. I'm not too good when it comes to doctors and the like, but it is something I want to do.

Problem is, the hospitals are legally bound not to discriminate on sexual orientation - so we gay people have to get gross STRAIGHT BLOOD

I gave blood just yesterday. Since I've never had sex, it's fine. I actually gave double red cells, in a procedure where they hook you up to some machine that draws your blood, then gives you back your plasma and some saline and keeps the red cells.

Doesn't it take several months for HIV to show up on a blood test? Etc.

Doesn't matter if you donate with diseases they screen all the blood anyways, its jsut easier on them if you don't donate potentially infected blood. Which is kind of stupid, but i don't plan on donating anyways.

I couldn't donate anyway since the iron in my blood is too low. But I applaud those who can.
