I don't think it is really ... I mean the very fact that 10% approx. is gay means it isn't normal.
But is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Just because it doesn't follow the norm doesn't equate it as wrong.
    What are other peoples' views?

Same logic can be applied to other demographics such as left handers, 10% of the population is also left handed. Are we normal?

According to Wikipedia, 4.4% of the U.S. population is Asian, are they normal? Or, 0.8% of the U.S.'s population being Native American, are they normal?

Just because we're a minority, doesn't make us irregular.

Labeling yourself as out of the norm only fuels the discrimination. We're no different from everyone else, say for one aspect of our life.

To answer your question, in my opinion, we're normal.

Well the word normal does not really have a set definition. What people interpret as normal is completely subjective and varies from person to person so you could argue nothing is normal. In society being gay isn't normal because it's a minority. That does not mean that it's bad though, it just means it's not the majority. I think the word 'normal' has too much of a negative stigma to it for people who are labelled as 'not normal'. You're basically just saying 'not majority' which isn't really that offensive.

    otc877 beat me to it.

If you mean are we what is typical? Well no, there's less queers people than straight.

Is acceptable? To some yes, some no.

Is it naturally occuring? This has been debated; evidence points to yes.

Haha, funny you posted this. When I came out to someone recently we were chatting about this and I said something like "I know it's not really normal" and she replied "No it's not that it's not normal, it's just not ordinary... you could say it's extraordinary!" I thought that was so nice and sweet lol.

I do agree though, what the hell is normal... it's just that being gay isn't as common as being straight.

    no .. not really ...

    no .. not really
and I never said anything is irregular .. tut tut ...

In that respect, I am not normal - leaving the prejudice to a side .. am I ? - but do I want to be normal? No.

The "normal" and "natural" argument is usually wielded by offended conservatives. Who usually drive SUVS and wear $500 outfits and eat Krispy Kremes. All of which, presumably, they plucked from the wild, since they're so hung up on doing things "naturally".

everything is normal, but heterosexuality is more common

Can you explain why you disagree? As for me using 'irregular', I had already used a form of 'not' (doesn't) in the sentence. I didn't want to be redundant and use "not normal" so I branched out a bit. Sorry for putting words in your mouth, wasn't my intention.

I'm sure we can debate what is normal, but I feel that anything that is naturally occurring and can be observed throughout history as normal. Although rarer than their straight counterparts, homosexuals fit into this category.

As for normal in society's eyes, no. I doubt two men kissing each other, will ever be viewed as normal. So, in that sense, we're not normal. But, in my own personal view, we are normal.

Normal as in common, no. There are certainly more straight people than gay/bi people.

Normal as in not some mutation or perversion, yes. Homosexuality occurs just as naturally as the other orientations.

The thing that you have to consider, is the definition of normal. Logically, normal is defined as the everyday happenings/feelings for a person. So, if being gay is an everyday happening/feeling for a person, then yes, gay is normal.
