Before I get started, read the sticky about posting about religion. Keep it civil, folks. I've waited about 9 hours to post it simply to get ahold of my own feelings on this topic. Anyway, here goes. Earlier today, I went to a church to donate some cans of green beans to their little food bank, and I overheard a conversation between two members who were talking about God's view on heterosexual sex even within marriage. One of them claimed that God "is just as disgusted about old couples getting intimate as he is about homosexuality," because old people can't reproduce. He continued to say that Viagra, Cialis, and other ED drugs should be illegal because erectile dysfunction is "God's way of telling you it's time to stop." I was stunned beyond belief. My mom, having a sex allergy, promptly fled the room upon hearing their conversation, but I couldn't get over that. Now god hates straight people! That's a new concept. I guess I see it this way. I see old people getting it on the same way I see the process and end result of using the bathroom: disgusting, but a normal human activity.
I would have recommended that they be the first ones to quit if they're having performance issues. Do they honestly thing an omniscient, cosmic being cares about little sentient bits of mold on this tiny orb of ours and who we are or aren't mating with? Besides, if we are made in God's image, God may as well be an arthritic old man too.
Sex is a terrible, bad, necessary evil for having children. And it should in no way be considered fun.
Hm... Okay. Here's a list of Biblical Old couples that have gotten together romantically: Abraham and Sarai Noah and Emzara Jacob and Rebekah God made covenants with all 3 of the males in these relationships. Their argument holds no (ha) water whatsoever.
....Did you go back in time to a puritan church? In all seriousness, I don't think most Christians believe that. This is unfortunately a reason for the people to hold onto their bigotry :/. Rather than go and change with everyone else, they instead decide to at least make sure they aren't hypocrites. It's just people holding onto their views with every tooth and nail.
Well people like that are the ones that give a horrible misinterpretation of the bible! i remember a story about the archangel Raphael, and sex during marriage, God gives his blessings to whomever does it in the name of mutual love AKA making love, so all the demons can leave them alone and share their love for each other. Here is where my the my ability to decipher the bible comes in: what happens when you have sexual relations and you both "felt it"? things become personal, romance and passion start to flourish and the two individuals feel like they can fight their demons on their own. People that take the bible literally need to put more attention in Language Arts in order to understand the wisdom hidden in the bible, remember that teacher telling you to explain that boring poem? well if you develop that ability the bible becomes much of a guide to be happy rather than just reproduction, although it has many horrible things in it, it also has some thoughtful messages that could be, but not necessarily, be applied into your lives
It's almost useless. It's wasted breath. They are really deeply rooted in these beliefs. AG, this sounds like a really conservative organization. For the conservative sects, or conservative people within mainstream sects, the purpose of sex is only to procreate, meaning recreational sex between a married man and a woman is also sinful. (Well, not every attempt is successful). It's mind boggling, really. It almost seems that if churches weren't into dissing on sex, of any kind, their workload would be cut in half. Just give them the cans of food for their charities, walk out of there, smile at these folks, and remain the bigger man in these situations.
I have never in my life heard that argument. I'd love to have a conversation with them to hear their beliefs behind that. :lol:
So, i suppose sterile people should just die virgins?.... Also its stupid to say, erectile dysfunction happens as a sign to stop... I mean, does that mean cancer happens as a sign for us to just die, so we shouldnt cure it... I believe in god and i think we where given intelligence so we can solve our problems such as disfunction and cancer or any health via medicines, artifacts, surgery or anything we invent, i seriously don't understand where does this people get their weird ideas.
