I remember when I came out to my sister, she jokingly said, "Well you do like musicals, so I suppose it was kind of obvious."

WTF? I've never heard of that stereotype before.

But it's gotten me thinking, is that stereotype somewhat accurate?

    So, musicals....yes? No? Depends?

Oh my god, YES!!! I love drama and singing and musicals are just wonderful!!! I recently saw the revamp of Jekyll and Hyde the musical with Constantine Maroulis in the lead and I just love it!! It's been turned into a rock musical and it was done sooo well!! It's one of the only 2 shows I've seen on broadway (the other being phantom of the opera which was good but we did it at my highschool and I've seen the film like 50 times so it wasn't new) and it's my all time favourite right now! Runner up is Sweeny Todd!

Sorry I love musicals so much. They're just wonderful!

Musicals are good if every single song isn't an insipid love song.
Unfortunately 90% of musicals seem to only ever have insipid love songs.

@ video: YES! Hell yes! HELL. Fucking. YES!

Funny enough, I didn't see the last option until it was too late. I would have picked that as a joke.

Let's see... Musicals I love are:

    42nd Street
    Thoroughly Modern Millie
The Producers (gotta love Mel Brooks )
    Chicago
    WICKED
Les Miserables (10th anniversary is about the best you can get, but the current London show is fucking amazing as well)
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
    Into the Woods
    The Lion King
    Beauty and the Beast
    Pirates of Penzance
    Pippin
    Guys and Dolls
    Sweeney Todd (thanks, Yelena)

And Seussical would normally be there if I hadn't heard the songs over and over and over and over and over and FREAKING OVER again.

In a way, this is a stereotype that's kind of dumb. If it's a well made movie, regardless of genre, any guy should be comfortable saying he likes it.

I voted "no" because there are very few I've liked. A lot of them are silly, kitsch, or didn't need to be delivered in that genre. For myself, I can name "Evita," and just because of parts, such as the famous balcony scene, and the historical significance of Evita Peron's life. The other one that comes to mind is "Fiddler on the Roof" for its cultural significance. But every adult I knew in my parents' generation liked, or loved, "Fiddler on the Roof." It's a classic.

I like a few of the classic ones. But, I guess in this respect, I'm kind of a snob and prefer opera because of its classical music ties.

Im not that good at acting on the spot, but some people say im pretty good (constantly lying to your friends and family certianly helps a lot :\). That being said i absolutely hate my voice. So i have never auditioned for a lead role (ill do so for dramas and skits), but musicals are so much fun. Ill probably keep doing it for as i can.

Good place to me good friends (and there are plenty of great guys  )
Though, if you are tyring to do it for that reason, watch out; everyone is insane and flamboyant.

Everyone says its a stereotype, but the majority of guys will be gay. Singing and dancing isnt always meant for a straight dude (maybe because they're too scared to be called gay).

It depends. They can be okay if the songs are incorporated well, but I feel that with most musicals, the songs just kind of get in the way of and halt the progression of the story, which I find annoying.

That, then, is the fault of the director, choreographer or producer. Not the writer.

Well mostly yes, but there are some that aren't good.

    I HATED starlight express.

I LOVED Fiddler on the Roof (my favourite musical)

I just like the theatre in general. But given the choice of seeing a random musical and, say, a production of Streetcar named Desire I'd go and see Streetcar. Musicals are lovely but they have to be really realllly good for me to love them.

Hell to the yes! I love musicals!

Before coming out, my love of musicals was the one gay stereotype which I was unable to suppress.
