I have a strong dislike of terms of endearment; they always make a relationship look condescending and forced, in my mind. I wouldn't be able to stand a boyfriend calling me dear or honey.

What do you think of them? Do you use ToE with your significant other, or vice versa?

I've got kinda mixed feelings on this, some I don't mind, others I cannot stand.

I just hate pet names. I wouldn't mind being called "Dear" or "Honey" occasionally by my future boyfriend though, as long as it's simple and nothing too "Fluffy" or "Soft"

    I'm about 50/50.

i prefer funny nick names..just the ones you would have with friend..but otherwise terms of endearment at just annoying and it would be strange and weird and.... if anyone ever used them with me

I could deal with an occasional dear if it was used sarcastically "Yes, dear :rolle:"or the terms weren't used constantly but it really kind of annoys me. Not a deal breaker but...

I don't like it. Maybe the occasional "dear" or "sweety" thing, but that's it. I prefer having nicknames and pet names, but no endearment terms.

    Pls no.

It really depends on the term used.

Man, I thought there were way more hopeless romantics on this forum than just me. :-/ If we really like each other, then hell yeah I'm down for pet names!

I like them. As long as they're nice though, I hate horrible ones like 'bitch' x

Some sort of 'in joke' one would be good and I don't think a 'babe' or 'cutie' would go astray every now and then.

But yeah, not every interaction requires the use of ToE...Unless you're into that kinda thing (I'll show myself out).

I like pet names with a bit of quirkiness or humour in them. I don't like the sickly-sweet ones

I thought I hated pet names until I got into my first relationship and invented like 50 of them for him. Lol.

Depends on the name and how the guy says it. And why he says it. Mostly the latter two, actually.

I've got nothing against cliches or sweetness :3

I've never really minded it one way or another. Although having a name that I've always considered pretty boring (John), I have always kind of liked it when people do something unusual with it. (And it almost never happens, which probably makes it even more appealing.) Johnny, Jay, John-John, whatever--I'd take that over a "sweetie" or "honey", because it seems like a more sincere and personal way of saying I'm special to him.

I have a hatred for pet names like "honeymuffin" or other stuff like that, however if they called me a nickname or pet name because a memory or something I would be fine, like let's say for some reason I spill a giant bag of marshmallows on him
(no clue why I use that as example)
If he were to call me marshmallow it would still be iffy with me, but because there is actual meaning besides just a random pet name it would be better

I love it.. but im into all that cutesy stuff.. I probably prefer nicknames to the standard 'dear' etc.
