I'm looking into getting my third (and final) tattoo. On my wrist. At first I wanted to have the words, "Faith Love Hope Trust" tattooed in fancy writing, but I couldn't decide on a design or font. I came across pictures of dove tattoos and love the look of it. My problem now is that I'm not 100% sure of the meaning. As far as I can tell, it means peace, love, freedom or symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Are these meanings accurate? If you saw this tattoo on someone, what message would it convey? This is what I'm looking at getting: I'm obsessed with uneven numbers, and the number 3 is my favourite. I got my first tattoo in 2007, my second one in 2010 and to complete the "cycle" I need to get my third one sometime this year. I just need to save up enough money to get it done :icon_wink
Definitely! In the Old Testament (Genesis 8:6-12), Noah sends a dove from the ark to see if the floods have at all subsided and the dove brings back an olive branch. It symbolized hope that soon the lands would be available to renew. In the New Testament a dove flew down upon Jesus' baptism, symbolizing the gift of the Holy Spirit. So it's only the most universal symbol of peace I can think of. Very cute.
The dove with the olive branch in the historical sense means a peace offering between nations Foxface
