Several people I have came out too have said something along the line of "you? But you don't act like a gay guy!" so I must be doing something wrong. I guess I need help. Anybody else have a similar problem?

Be yourself.....as long as 'yourself' is the antithesis of gay stereotypes?

Falling in line with those stereotypes, or falling out of line with the gender binary, is far more strenuous than being able to assimilate. Not to mention, seeing someone dying their hair as problematic is absolutely ridiculous. This mindset is the reason why we have these issues to begin with.

I kinda want red highlights in my hair, but it's not because I want to advertise that I'm gay. In fact, I liked the idea even before I questioned my sexuality. I wanted to highlight my hair because I wanted to. I didn't want to "fit in" or be different. It's just something I thought would look nice on me, and I'm sure that's the reason why other people do things like that.

Honestly there isn't one set criteria that fits all gay guys you could have a big body build, facial hair, and have a deep voice and be totally gay ie. not flamboyant like most people think gay guys are. It's just a sterotype really. And it really annoys me when people say a guy can't be gay when he looks or acts a certain way I'm just like  that doesn't mean anything.

I came out to my sister last Saturday, and she said that she'd never have guessed, because I'm so masculine.

Anyone can be gay as people cannot see feelings and thoughts, only what we decide to portray depending on how much we trust that person.

Unfortunately many people have the mentality that gays are more feminine than a woman and more or less are like the guy in this video.

Problem is, there are a lot more gay people that the ones which are visible. But we are judged based on the visible ones, so even if they're a minority they are what people expect.

Case in point, horned helmets worn by Vikings. Historical evidence suggests there were only like one or two Norse helmets which had horns on them (ever), and only then for ceremonial purposes. But once filmmakers and other media producers got a hold of that idea, it ballooned into a fallacy ingrained in our culture that they looked like a herd of buffalo charging up the beach.

Well, it is true that there is wide diversity in the way gay men act.

The one uniting factor of all gay men is not how they act per se.

Rather, all gay men are united by how their penises act in response to the sight of other men and other penises. :icon_wink

I have people at work who I came out to recently. I knew them for years and they never guessed or even suspected. I worked hard to get rid of the lisp and the limp hand.. no reason to bring it back now.
