Latest great one, that I finally read, Hero by Perry Moore. I liked it because the story wasn't centered around a lot around his gaiety, but he was a complex character with more than just one layer to his personality. I don't know many books about lesbians though.
Alex Sánchez writes great gay books http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Sanchez I have read all his books but one

I've read All American Boy, and that was an okay book, though did have some weird points. A Secret Edge was also pretty good, though follows the basic formula of most gay books. And Boy meets Boy was just cool  . There are a few books you may want to look at on Amazon, some guy has created a list of some good books which may be of interest to you. http://www.amazon.co.uk/More-Gay-Fiction-Page-Turners/lm/R2A8MR3BNJJNZA/ref=cm_lmt_dtpa_f_1_rdssss1
